Hi all

My SiL was at our house today and mentioned to the wife her car was making a hideous noise when braking. Off i dutifully pop to take a look and one of the rear pads has got so low it's totally fked the disc, putting deep scores in it. The fronts aren't far off either and there's a decent lip on the discs, so they'll be getting done too.

Anyway, first thing wifey says of course is "Eltax can replace brakes". So i find myself with the job of sorting it out! I guess the "investment" of the 2 post lift has put me in pole position for such things. hehe I've had a good google around and spotted a guide or two on the front pads which seem easily enough, but 2 things i can't figure out on the rear:-

1. Is it a wind-back type caliper? I only have a laser style one that i bought for a VAG a while back, so i'll need to buy a new tool or the right adapter

2. i've never done brakes on a car with electronic handbrake, is there anything to be aware of?

If it’s an electric handbrake, I think you’re going to need the necessary software to wind the callipers back or put them in service mode. At the very least, you’ll need it to make sure the callipers don’t clamp whilst your fingers are in there.
It's a 2010 car. Were these software actuated ones mainstream back then?? I think it has a lever to operate it.

I got eyes on the car this morning. SiL thought she ought to tell me that the electronic brake handle has been broken for a while.

Upon inspection, the mechanism has completely snapped. Apparently this has been like this for about 9 months! The car puts the handbrake on itself when it’s switched off and disengages when she pulls away.

It’s now with the local Indy and being sorted by them (including the rear discs and pads)
