Stubborn subframe bush

Hi,

First time changing my control arms today on my MK8 Civic 1.8. The arm came with a new bush where it pivots on the subframe (Haynes doesn't mention replacing this and Honda don't list this as a serviceable part but a guy on YT changed it OK.

I bought a bush press kit but the smallest cup was still too big, but the guy on YT used a 28mm socket instead. Using this method on the OSF arm worked perfectly, but the NSR... not a chance - it wouldn't budge and after 2 hours of trying to line it up perfectly thinking this was the cause I had to give up. The OEM bushes actually looked fine, but I'm wondering what some of you on here would have tried?

I just can't think why it wouldn't budge, there's no sign of corrosion keeping it in when the other one came out no bother.

Use a drill through the rubber between the inner & outer metal tubes of the bush to remove the centre.
Use a hacksaw to cut through the outer metal tube of the bush being careful not to cut into the arm.
Once the tube is cut they will usually knock out fairly easily.
Press the new one in.

Used this method several times on various bushes when I haven't got quite the right size punch for my hydraulic press - a sightly undersize one will tend to push the rubber & the central tube out leaving the outer metal tube in place.

Thanks paintman - I’ll use this method when I encounter this again - I’m not touching this again unless it starts to fail as it looked in decent nick.

Newb question... I’ve got a junior jack saw so this would fit in the bush housing, are there thinner types?

The bush I posted a link to comes in 2 parts - you first press in the majority of the bush and then the small end section on the opposite side. The photo I took shows the bush without the end bit in place.
