If its a cost issue, £320 is, after all a big chunk to find for most folk (PH Powerfully Built and wealthy Company directors aside) maybe look at diy.
The car isnt going to fall off the road on the way back from the dealers, the brakes will still be effective and safe for now, certainly enough to get it back.
Then source disks and pads, watch a YouTube video on changing them.
Depends on what it is of course, but brake parts can be a very easy and cost effective thing to diy, they arent hard if you have a bit of mechanical nouse.
£320 at a dealers is probably £100 of parts and an hour of your time.

...Also I would look at the discs yourself, just to make sure the garage aren’t creating a job.
Indeed. They are obviously not worn enough to be an MoT failure (is it even a formal advisory?).If the £320 is a bit much, then a local garage can probably do Pagid or Brembo branded parts cheaper than the main dealer's factory ones.

Hi
My son took his car into the main dealers for a service and mot. Passed the mot, but the garage is saying that the discs are worn passed the manufacturers recommended level and it's going to be £320 to replace/repair . This should be done within the next month!
To respond directly to your post, £320 for an axle set of discs and pads is expensive. I would expect you to be able to better that price whilst still using genuine Ford parts at a non-manufacturer franchised garage. You could probably further reduce the price to around £200 if pattern parts were used. My son took his car into the main dealers for a service and mot. “Main dealer”. There’s the problem.
Take it to a decent independent garage and they’ll do it for a lot less.
In fact, I’d wager if you take it to an Indy garage they’ll tell you to there’s nowt wrong and to come back in 10k miles.
If the dealer has measured the disc width and told the OPs son that for example the min manufacture width is 22mm and his discs are say under 21mm in which case they need replacing. Take it to a decent independent garage and they’ll do it for a lot less.

The MOT is a absolute bare minimum inspection and due to time constraints many testers will not physically measure a disc and will decide if for example there is a big lip ,hairline cracks, poor surface finish that the disc is a fail.
Given the importance of brakes I'd rather know my discs are in specification and safe rather than pin my hopes on something within a mm of complete failure.
There are plenty of examples of discs that have fractured/cracked due to being too thin and not distributing heat evenly.
Without knowing the age/mileage type of car it's impossible to make estimates of cost or if the wear is reasonable.
Yup, I totally agree with you. But we also know that there are many main dealers that have a reputation for having your pants down for unnecessary work. Threads are a regular feature here for main dealers suggesting tyres with plenty of tread need replacing and such like.
I wasn’t suggesting the OP disregards the advice and carries on regardless. I was suggesting he takes it to another garage for a second opinion.
