it works well on carbs. here is a before and after on a Weber. Vapour is better than dry bead as the surface is more "polished" and bright. here is a comparison of dry bead Vs Vapour.
Downsides? you have to be meticulous with the cleaning afterwards, but from memory SU's dont have tiny ports and closed galleries.

Vapor blasting is definitely the way to go for them to look new and without the risk of any residual to remain which can do harm. I've just had some Webers blasted and they look better than new. They have to be cleaned afterwards as Buzzer rightly points out, I had them ultrasonically cleaned.
