Had such a cool idea. I don't love washing the cars but it is a necessary evil as all 3 are black, one is an R8 which I don't want to take anywhere, one is a newish A5 which is in 'as new' condition. I dabble with a bit of washing of cars here and there but the bigget ball ache is getting out, untangling and returning the pressure washer. What if I kept it connected and plugged in permanently but used this to take the line outside? So I can just pick it up & get washing without the hassle. Karcher/BSP adapters are widely available. Would this work? Looks like an air line but if the bar rating is OK surely it's OK?

Not essential for washing a car.
3 cars to do, it's good at the initial blast, I've tried with & without over the years & prefer with, plus I like using snowfoam

You can just wall mount a large pressure hose. Why have a pressure washer to move in and out when you can just grab the squirtysquirter, switch on and get going? biggrin
That's my point but the one I linked to above is cheaper and has an auto-rewind function too
My one is £100
the one in your video is £100 just for the reel without the hose

I paid about £400 for a Karcher industrial retract reel, it is over 10 meters and is brilliant. I have a steam cleaner in a purpose built shed behind the garage with hot and cold water (cold is softened)

I have the new quick lock on the lance so can swap from snow foam to pressure lance with a quick twist. It is excellent.
I’ve got Karcher K4 with quick Lock it’s awesome

Do you wind with softened water you can leave the car wet and it dries without leaving marks?

I’ve done it! Just bought a small wooden shed to go out the front- will possible install a slatted treated timber base to stop it rotting from splashes. Have bought a lock, and a pressure washer reel and cable. Will also have the hoover in there plugged in with the edging piece attached to achieve the same objective of quick and easy valeting.

found from the Frivolous thread.

Has someone actually spent £50 on a reel. I read ?

I am thinking £100 is a little mental, and looking for alternates...
I spent £130 on my pressure reel... seems sturdy, bit painful but only what I'd just spent on a decent garden hose wall reel I guess
I looked at loads of options at the time. Part of the appeal of making this was to get away from the vile tangle of the pressure hose, so it had to be a reel. Couldn't just have a long load of cable on the floor of the hut
My preferred one was an auto reel that winds back in under it's own power - even less effort! But they were more like £300 (!)

It is for doing it properly.
It’s optional.
Everything is optional isn't it, it's optional to sleep on a mattress & have electric lighting in your home! You can do it however you like really.
I have used a hose, a battery powered 'dirtworker' when I lived in a flat, washed my cars with buckets etc, every which way going since I've been driving, got 3 reasonable sized cars all in black on the drive at the moment.
Wouldn't get round to washing them at all if I wasn't using a pressure washer it just about makes it bearable, uses very little water too
And you really don't see any car washes or pro car valeters / detailers using anything else, the supporting evidence is strong

Any thoughts of plumbing in a water heater ?
A hot water supply out side would be handy for bucket filling and something I’m looking at.
I was thinking about taking a feed from the hot water pipe in the bathroom to outside, but I only wash one a day so filling one half bucket in the kitchen & taking it out is just about bearable!

jake - where is the autoreel one please?
Here goes - I never got round to phoning them up to check they were suitable but these are the ones I found. I actually started this thread off to ask for advice about using one of these for this purpose, they seem to be air reels but the working PSI looks simiar to that of the Karcher - probably worth checking with them

Don’t have Dogs then ?
I’m thinking of fitting a elect shower- can be used for mucky dogs outside the garage door, and bucket filling, £60 and a bit of cabling.
No dogs... that's a whole different paradigm... some ideas...

Hand cranking is a pain and hard work, when the whole point of the exercise is to save effort. Wish I had gone for an auto winder

This is the setup I have. The hose is a commercial grade thing, no chance of kinking.

I can see the benefit of an auto rewind hose, but this takes all of 30s to wind in after use, which I do once a week. Gaining says 20s once a week doesn't feel that important to me personally, plus you have the added risk with the auto-rewind ones where they decide to rewind when you pull for more hose and the hose slaps against your car. Each to their own.
I feel better about it now you said that

What I would say is the whole project is pretty lazy for me- did it to save about 5 mins of faff a week getting the pressure washer out. In that context, 30 seconds is major!
