Hi guys, on saturday I'm heading out to Perth for a 3 - 4 month work stint and staying in an apartment in the CBD. Any suggestions on worthwhile things to do in my downtime and are there any car related events going on at this time of year..?? Thanks

Thanks chaps... flew in last night and first day in the office this morning. Dark when I left work so 'exploring' will have to wait until the weekend. Know what you mean about it being quiet... I'm staying in East Perth just off the main drag and its very very quiet for a City location.

Yeah East Perth is really quiet...and wait for the weekend when it gets even quieter hehe

Where in the city are you working?
Apart from the 'Bazza' boy racers outside the apartment in the early hours frown

Anyway, I'm working in the durack centre on Adelaide Tce / Victoria Ave.

If you want a noisy pint, head to Shafto Lane or Northbridge.

Just back from 3 weeks in Europe and it sure feels good to be home.

Give AFL a watch, cricket season is coming too (India and SA this year I think).

What sort of cars float your boat? We have the RWB Porsche guys over from Japan next month. And there is always drags etc on once it stops raining.

Tourist stuff?
Whiteman Park
Pinnaroo
Hillaries
Freo
Point Walter
Cohunu Kolala Park
Mandura Canals
Lesmurdie Falls
Swan Valley (wine, beer and chocolate)
Thanks for that think I'll be hiring a car for a few days and hoping to bring the family out in Aug so some food for thought.

In terms of cars anything goes really as long as it's got a V8 - I'm missing mine back home. But seriously anything really as long as it's not too chavved.

I haven't worked in the CBD since 2011 but used to work across the road from Durack.

Used to be a nice pizza place near there on Hay St, just down from the Travelodge. OKish bar inside the travelodge but the Lucky Shag is down by the Barrack st jetty is pretty good if you don't mind a short walk.
Thanks for that... The lucky shag yes. I am determined to get a selfie with the name in the background and send it to the Mrs 😊

Thanks for the clarifications on the 'Rolla... I was wondering whether there was some Oz only V8 version or something..!! Had a walk upto Northbridge yesterday and there seems a bit more going on with a few bars close by plus an open air cinema..!! Might have to head that way next weekend.

Yes, drinks prices are summik else dont think I'll be drinking myself into oblivion anytime soon although I have found my local BWS..!!

Chaps, I thought I’d ask on here as there maybe some experience which will help me make a decision.

I was sent over to WA on a subclass 400 3 month visa. As a result I need to be out of the country on the 23 Sept.

Now, one of the selling points to the family back in the UK for me bailing on them was that I would return in early Aug for a week and then fly back out with them for a 2 week holiday. Current plan was to bring them out on the 09 Aug.

The spanner in the works is we have a very busy period coming up late Aug through Sept and I’ve been asked to stay on until the end of Oct.

Not being knowledgeable enough about the whole Visa process I thought as I’m company sponsored I could apply for an extension or similar. Wrong. I have to leave Oz and apply for a new Visa 3 month working visa at which point my current visa becomes null and void.

So, at present I am thinking I fly back to the UK on the 26/27 July. Apply for a new visa. Hope to god it gets granted and then fly out on the 09 Aug…. It wouldn’t be an issue if it were just myself travelling but I’m having to sort flights and visas out for the family and at present don’t know what to do for the best… My current visa was turned around in a week but I’m hearing a second application can, will, most likely take longer..

Apols for the long winded post but any words of wisdom or recent similar experiences would be interested to hear..

In other news, I’m enjoying my time in Perth.. Watched the Eng v Sweden game at the Sports bar at the Casino last weekend which was ram packed with Eng fans and a good night. Didn’t lose anything at the roulette tables either smile

Probably going to hire a car this weekend and have a bit of a mooch about as going a little bit stir crazy without my own transport. Overall though enjoying the experience apart from the issues outlined above..!!

Thanks guys. The more advice I get and having read the guidance notes on the link posted it's just all a bit of a lottery. Our global mobility dept are a bit bloody useless it has to be said.... Anyhow, I'm half tempted to apply for a new visa when I return and then sort outbound travel subject to approval (for me and the family). Therefore, should there be any delays at least I'll be at home and not stressing that flights are booked...!!

Forgot to sy above I see Chelsea are playing at the Optus stadium against Perth Glory on the 23 July so quite fancy popping down for that smile

So STK, how has it been?

Sorry said it wouldnt rain much... hehe
Sorry missed this.... I ended up flying back to the UK in early Aug for a week (absolute killer) and then brought the family out for 2 weeks, amazingly it only rained for 1 day during their 2 weeks out here.

Managed to get a few things crossed off the list; Kings Park, Freo prison, Whiteman Park, Hillary's, watched the sunset from City Beach and some other stuff. We all had a really good time although I had to work for some of it and had to fly upto Karratha for a day which didn't go down well with the family..!!

Anyway, put them on a plane and flew back to Blighty myself a couple of weeks later to sort a new class 400 visa out. That was approved last Friday (2 week turnaround) and I flew back out on Monday so missed the public holiday.

Quite looking forward to a chill over the weekend and will take residence in a bar on Sat lunchtime to watch the Eagles play in the AFL final.... All in all it's a bloody long way from home but enjoying it; the works great, people are very friendly and all being well I'll see some decent weather over the coming months.
