Ebay seem to be having trouble keeping the scammers at bay with all the 99p listings. Seems to be dozens of them everyday.

Appears someone has figured out how to automate multiple listings.

Ebay don't seem to be able to keep these scam listings at bay. An evening glance at the classic car section is pointless at the moment.

Why would they remove them? - if they are actually making money from a listing, (irrespective of whether genuine or otherwise) someone there atEbay has taken a 'business' decision to 'take the money' and only remove the listing in the event of a complaint or someone reporting a fraudulent listing. One I 'followed' was removed when I reported it - only to re-appear later with a totally different I.D and address - reported this too - only for it to appear again with a another ID and address.
Are they making money from a listing?

They might choose to remove them because it undermines the real listings that might make them money?

I was hoping to have a browse of the classic cars last night, but it was hopeless.

Boats the same now too.

I am sorry; in fact they are all my cars, most* of which are only worth 99p on a lucky day, in bad light, when it's just been raining, and if the buyer is stoned.

*That's "most", as in "all".
I was delighted to offload all that crap. Didn't realise it was you buying!

I think your spot on about eBay losing huge amounts of business because of this. One of my favourite pastimes is idly searching through the classic car listings with no intention of buying anything. I've bought at least 5 cars over the last few years doing that. With all these scam listings I just don't bother looking.
Same here, generally one a year, a daft old car purchase to mess about with. Not worth the effort to look any more. Same in the boat section.

Reporting them one by one is pointless, it needs a systematic fix.

I'm on the look out for a down at heel Jaguar 240, but its pointless at the moment.
