A hotted-up Anglia for me, please.

I won't do it, but I like the fact that it still intrigues me.

The spec I can still reel off for you: Classic struts and discs, 5 1/2 Js, 1650 pushrod - or a Lotus Twin Cam! - with a bullet box from a 2000E.

I even enjoyed typing the words.

Marvellous.

Mate of a mate bought a 105E back in 1982-ish from the original owner........under 30k miles from new, garaged from new.......still smelt like a new car.....white with red interior and a red side stripe.
He then preceded to do the as you suggested above, with addition of Lotus-Cortina steels, but with a 1500GT from a Mk.Cortina GT etc, rather than a later x-flow. He did think of putting a TC in it, but decided to save that idea for a later day.

As for gearboxes, to be pendantic, the Bullet nametag wasn't the 2000E gearbox, it was the name of the set of close ratio gears available from Ford Motorsport that could be fitted to the 2000E gearbox for competition use.....a standard 2000E gearbox wasn't a Bullet gearbox.
Oops. There wasn't a lot of science to it. I was just a mindless devotee reciting words. The odd thing was me hankering after a Ford at all. Virtually all my early cars were BMC A-series.

Your wish is my command smile

My 105e from my heady ‘70’s college days: 1760 big-valve Lotus TC, twin 45s, 200E ‘box, Classic Capri front struts with uprated inserts, turreted Bilsteins at the rear, English axle, quick rack, full cage, buckets, harnesses, seam welded shell, fireproofed rear bulkhead, Cibies, Lotus steels etc.

Happy (boy racer) days biggrin

Ooh, yes, please.

I'm amazed you wrangled 1760 out of a 1558. Collectively we seem to be looking back fondly at those days.

There was one at a Goodwood Breakfast Club in the paddock. I took quite a few pics. I'll post some when I remember how my filing system works.

Sold a twin choke Weber from a Cooper S to a bloke with an early Escort. He asked for his money back when the car didn't run right and his mate told him it was probably jetted wrong. A little knowledge and all that.

Thanks for that smile

A Sierra Cosworth. Although I wouldn't say they are attainable now . Fortunately bought one 10yrs ago, when I could afford one!
Yes, I meant 'attainable at the time of your youth' but it sounded stuffy and it was too long for the title.

I'd like to add Gilbern Invader to my list. Also not BMC you'll notice.

Where am I up to? A Hotted-up Anglia and a Gilbern Invader, ooh, and a Frogeye.

The Frogeye Sprite: the World's least scary sportscar. When I was first buying car mags in the 60s, Caterham were car dealers who specialised in Lotus 7 and Frogeyes. I know! They did handle nicely. The rear suspension was different to the later Sprites and Midgets. Exotic in a modest way.

Found it. Filing system? What filing system?

The owner picked up where Jeff Uren left off. It was a lovely piece of kit.

I'm surprised how long ago this was. It was the New Year's Day meeting at The Phoenix in Hartley Wintney in 2011.*

The pictures themselves tell us how technology moves on. I may not have had the most recent pocket camera but the details of the photo include 'Olympus Digital Camera' 'file size 407 kb' It's about a tenth the size of pictures on my current phone.

*The Phoenix in Hartley Wintney was the birthplace of the Vintage Sports Car Club.

It was auctioned recently I think. The purists would no doubt dislike the bonnet intake scoop and Minilites/Minilite replicas as I think the ‘proper’ rims were Dunlops?

I had the feeling he'd done a superb job on a limited budget. There had to be compromises. Just a feeling. Smashing bloke. Ready to talk and easy to talk to.

Fair play to the chap, and my comment wasn’t intended as a criticism. I just know how anal critics can get about mods to cars (I got criticised for putting a stainless steel exhaust system on my Zodiac!)
My fault. I didn't think you were criticising and should have phrased my response better.

He died unfortunately, that’s why his 3 cars went to auction.

I registered to bid on one of them, but it went for a bit too much money.

Here’s mine…

Lovely. Just right.

I wrote in one of responses I hoped it didn't mean he'd passed on and then took it out because it sounded morbid.
