Wow,

What a response? It's a small world. I should have got the reg number but I was so surprised to see one I had a "Blond" moment? It was peacock blue and looked immaculate? Perhaps the owner will read this???

Justin it's been a long time. We are having a launch party for my Polish HK500 it you happen to be around Poole end of June?

Regards,

Adam

Good morning Duesey,

Thank you for posting. I was confident it would be your car but the plot thickens. So no to Duesey, no to Manny and his cars are black anyway? Justins car is no longer blue?????????? Come on guys, solve my mystery?

Wow,

I would like to thank everybody for their participation in this thread. It's quite amazing to think that you can make a post about something as unusual as Facel Vega on a forum like Pistonheads and get an answer. It would seem that the Facel I spotted only lives a couple of miles from me? If anybody can put the owner in touch with me, it would be great to have a look at his car perhaps over a beer/glass of wine? This means that there are at least 3 running Facels in Dorset.
OK guys what I would really like to do is find out how many ROAD LEGAL, RUNNING Facel 11's and HK 500's there are in the UK? I have the list above to which I can add my two HK500's. I am aware of a few more cars through the club that I will try and add later. Great to talk Facel?

Hi Richard,

Welcome to our little forum. Now you are the man that might know how many Facel 11's and HK500's are on the road? Hope your well. Regards, Adam Sherring.

Hi John. Thank you for posting. Yes I did try and buy your shiney rim embellishers? But I'm not very lucky with e-bay. Thank you for your kind offer but I need four. When the car is finished at the trimmers I will know exactly what I require and I hope you can help. I hope your well. Regards, Adam.

I think that maybe now we must have most members of the UK Facel club involved on this forum??

I also think that it's overpriced by a silly amount but it's great to see Facels finaly being valued closer to what I think they are worth. If you compare them to coach built Rolls Royces or Aston Martins, Facels still offer great value for money. Obviously though not at the £250,000 mark but in real world prices. The down side is the fact that now I may never be able to add a Facel 11 to my stable unless I sell a kidney? Maybe it's time to find a Facelia????????? or a Gordon Keeble, Bristol, Monteverdi????????

Thank you Bob for that. Perhaps this should be the offical Facel Forum now? That looks like a great car that I hope somebody buys it and gets it up and running as is, rather than restores it to as new. As some one who is coming to the end of a five year restoration of an HK500 please do not under estimate the amount of work and money that goes into doing one of these cars properly. Not only that but I have not seen an unrestored car on the road for many, many years! I would love it, but I'm just getting through the pain of the last one. My Silver car is currently at the trimmers so hopefully ready for Goodwood in September. Perhaps a few of us can meet up on the Friday at Goodwood?

Hi Facelman,

May be a silly question but do you have any sills for the HK500 or is it easier to make them up from scratch?

Hi Bob,

Does the brake problem affect HK's as well? Mine also "binded on" a few weeks ago for no reason and I managed to set the rears slightly on fire? Had the car transported to the garage and surprise, surprise the next day no problems? Brakes all checked out OK. I assumed it was something to do with the servo?
In terms of engine over heating? I could not drive the car now without the electric fan with it's manual override. After almost cooking the car so many times in London. I think I got to know every straight side street in East London? Anything to get some air through it.
I bumped into Phil Stebbins at Goodwood. He owned my Black Facel approx 20 years ago? The revival is an amazing event that I think we should have a more determined/organised presence at next year?

Justin, I'm sorry the car did not make the reserve but I'm sure that you will not be unhappy living with it for a while! It looks amazing and after the pain and huge expense of a full restoration then drive and enjoy. As to converting to left hand drive? I would be amazed if it ever crossed your mind! Yes Facels are certainly more valuable at present in LHD but any RHD Facel is a rare beast and should stay that way. If you are restoring for a profit then go ahead but if you are restoring to achieve a long held dream then enjoy and try and forget the ££££££'s after all they are only numbers? It's almost a shame these cars are getting so valuable but it's great to see them treated with the same respect as say a DB5? Almost? I'm sure that in the same auction was a Lamborghini 350GT that sold for less than the Facel's best bid. That's also a car on my most wanted list and one that I would have said should be a lot more valuable. What was it like in the flesh anyone?

Just to bore you Facel enthusiasts? The rear of my Silver HK500 is now done, with the car finishing at the trimmers this week hopefully?
Close to the end of a nearly five year nut and bolt restoration. Could I sell it after this? Not for a while at least?

The Polish obviously speak Polish??? I don't know what the bill will be as yet? The price was agreed 5 years ago and they have done a lot of work over and above so we will see? Wish me luck?
This is my favourite bit. The painted dash was done in the UK and the artist even put the bookmatched veneer line down the centre.
