I've posted about my rebuild currently being done on other threads, but after reading about Getsis and his 4.5SS with Syvecs (great & very informative, I will refer to as "other post") I thought I'd do one. To try and help others that may be considering this option.

After originally wanting to do the standard s6 rebuild to S spec (just adding larger injectors then the MBE to manage timing and everything) Dom showed me some nasty pictures

In the way of cracked liners and block damage... which I now know was the cause of my car belching so much smoke/oil when pressing on.

Dom was adamant he wouldn't let me be the mule for his 4.7ss so I went for his currently largest package (I could/should have worded that better).

From the start I have been wanting this to be the last tweak so I've gone for launch and tcs... Jason has spent time with me already showing and informing of the desired outcome. After eading the heat sink issues from the "other post" I had been thinking of this and am hoping the new heat shielding to bulk head/exhaust tunnel and engine bay as well as decats and manifolds now being at camcoat for prepping stage of thier ceramic coating. My thoughts being to manage heat better and make everything just run smoother. The new hi torque starter motor is also being heat shielded and fasted with the stainless straps.

At the same time airboxes have been carbon dipped (no performance gains but we have to have looks too.. right?)

Calipers went of to Jody at Python racing and are amazing... highly recommend top chap wink
Now to update last I saw 3 of the 6 cylinders had been machined I'm assuming more now and the block being ready for honing, crank ready and rods there?

I plan on speaking to Dom at some point today sir an eta but this has been the most patience I have ever shown as I'm wanting things to just go right 1st time. Got some great run in drives planned of which there are 2kmiles (1k tappets 1k for mapping) and data will be monitored and logged using torque pro on android via Bluetooth.

Expect me to update as I know more about running in/fuel usage and the other more important bits wink ,Questions I'll try and answer and any advice on what might make it a better read do politely say.

Dom will be along to answer that... my questions were very cover my back. TBH it's something I've always wanted and the Tuscan dynoing at 416 (from a standard car had me sold).

There was a que also no joke mine was one of 10engines in dome machine lab (seen with my own eyes) I see Dom keeps origin close as engines were marked in sharpie pen like of old with customers name and cc of build.

Question of you do sell what would you buy? Would it be to the tune of say 15k more? If so then imagine that going into your Cerb backed with 100k warranty wink and from what other 4.5ss owners have told me (not necessarily with MBE) yes it does come back a new car.

I can already here ajp owners saying yeah only cos you have launch or spent xxxx zzzzzzzz... core blimey I'm picking fights already.
PS Outlaw started it

Nice I you can visually see the bigger bore size. Now I know why Dom didn't let me have the 4.7 before testing. Those liner walls may have to be thinner for the extra capacity?

Why do weekends take so long. Hurry up Monday so the lads can crack on bounce

  • UPDATE*
Spoke with Dom this AM engine rebuilt like clockwork, So now heat shielding to be installed while we await Camcoat to finish and return manifolds etc.

throttle body bushings, being done and blasted as we speak.

Then its a visit to spec ideal location for traction/launch control buttons and their associated led lights bounce

Got some mega drives set for the run in miles inc. 450m (round trip) to pick up some Nankang NS2-R for the rears 250m (round trip) to see my mates at Totally Dynamic for my all important Super Sports decals and logos wink then a trip to central TVR and thats very nearly my 1000k tappets run in in 3 trips (I'll take to work a couple of times to sort the few other miles).

So maybe Thrills in the Hills I won't be left behind as id be on the 3k rpm limit lol. soon as Dom updates me with pics I'll put them up.

I'll listen to your advice billy. I thought it was 1k for the *tappets then you can drive hard for another 1k then the final mapping session. I realise car can't be ragged but I think I can see more of the power even though it will be on the base map. Your won't be disappointed comment just builds suspense mate, now I'm counting the seconds. Will have to get on some TDs with you in future too.

From memory I "think" I did but maybe it wasn't the only one? Sorry Gazza.

A little update... Ceramic coating has taken longer than anticipated (down to Camcoat perhaps being bogged under). after many apologies they have advised and promised they will be back with Powers by Tuesday. As of yesterday parts were fully prepped and the base layer was laid... Today the begging the final stages with completion and shipping on Monday. They look healthy with just a clean and base coat so I cant wait to see the TurboX black and blue final finishes.

Then onto Dom for reassembly and MBE upgrade, then we can go into the switch locations and electric PAS.

I may be getting ceramic coat OCD as Im thinking Rad, exhaust and possibly G'box casing could be on next years list

Quick update to say Camcoat are on a wind up... from initially being told completion the week 10/4/17 to then being told parts are a priority and will be done Monday (Yesterday) and arrive with Dom today. I called to check status and guess what "They will definitely be done by the end of the week" WTF guys "they will go out on Thursday and Dom will have them on Friday... its just we are so busy"

Thats really annoyed me as I fully understand they are busy and am glad they are but its even more important to manage expectations better especially as its being coordinated with other things. Quality of work and advice on spec given so far I cant fault them but clear communication leaves a lot to be desired.

Updates to come frown

Brief update. After many delays Camcoat completed parts last week and Dom received on Thursday 4th May. Thumbs up to them as without me having to ask I received a free upgrade to what effectively was CAM4 Spec where I got a 3:1 ratio (3 external and 1 internal coat) so I'm expecting the look to stay immaculate. A pic I can share of 1 manifold and decat is here and my excitement grows. I'll be telling Dom I need to collect car on the 23rd (just as I return from hols) so I should make Thrills in The Hills wink

Hi Matthew yes I am very excited indeed however after contact with Power yesterday the delay on the manifolds really has thrown a spanner in the works. Due to that and Jason annual leave the total scope won't be ready for the 23rd so Im now pressing as to a confirmed completion date... I'll be in Italy early June so it seems like I may not have a summer with the car (who does in England anyway lol)

It will work out for the best I keep telling myself.

Totally agree with you! This is the most calm I've ever been on waiting for something so epic but effectively it will be like a new car so Im patient.

On holiday end of the week anyway so I can chill plus there is the added benefit of having extra time to prepare the readies that must be handed over to Dom. Im just annoyed that its putting everyone back as Dave the trimmer is still waiting to do a few bits for me.

Yours looks great Gaz, its that new car feel I'm really looking forward too. 1000mile run in hope you've got trips planned? In all I have to get 2k in before all hell really breaks loose. After reading mbe threads I'm really looking forward to feeling the new behaviour of throttle response and sequential injection. All updates will be coming...also 2k miles of run in should get me nicely used to the Saxo leccy pump before I press on and become accustomed to Rockingham and the Pod wink

Enjoy your lovely upgrade and we'll have to get together soon.

Latest update and a very big thanks to Dom at Power today. I've just returned to uk and was told my supplied heat shielding didn't fit (as per described or the trust in which I had bought it on). Rather than Dom chop it up and have complain he asked me in to view and see just what the situation was.

Dom was correct and it wasn't a straight forward fit so I got my scalpel out and got to trimming. Still undecided on wether to shield above f1 panel or on top of it when it goes back in? Another visit may be needed.

Dom took lots of time showing me the components that have gone into the build and I'm well and truly chuffed with what will be coming home soon enough.

Massive shout out to Powers and this masterpiece.

Cheers Gazza, you'll deffo notice the difference after the 1000milesa and tappets adjusted. Once you have full revs to play with it's a whole different game. At the moment to you notice you tend to stay in a higher gear compared to before? I'm hoping the huge torque boost has this effect for me.

Sorry to hear about you jaw, was it from extra large smiles from the new engine?

In update, Dom let me know heat shielding was able to be nicely patched and I'm very happy with results.

Getting really excited now bounce

Today was bitter sweet. Dom emailed me with the subject Rad Doomed (you can imagine the squeaky bum time it brought on)! This was one of a few minor niggles which were encountered when investigating the mounting of my electric PAS pump.

The long and short of that was me saying ok I'll have a new one, but TVR had specced a taller than 'usual' one for mine so a bespoke Ally one is on order. the plus side of having it out is the mounting of the larger PAS pump is even better as it will be central near the rad (with no adverse effects) and fixings and hoses run seamlessly and well hidden. While there I thought its prob a good shout to get a new air con rad too as again thats 17yrs old

Now all bespoke harnesses have been made and wheel sensors and the like machined we are only a week or so off. Im more and more feeling like I'll be getting a new car... or was that I should have just got a new car rofl
