Top End rebuild

First off excuse my punctuation etc and I hope I explain my self clearly .
I am i the early stages of looking at a Tuscan ,I love to read up and gather as much info as possible by trawling forums and talking to actual owners of the speed6 engine .
With my possible budget , I will be more looking at cars that have had a " Top end rebuild " rather than full engine rebuilds .
My question relates to will a " top end rebuild " be fairly reliable for yrs or is it kind of a temporary measure that will prob last say 20 K , I wont be looking to thrash the car or track day it and will be more interested in long touring trips , plus once I purchase will always let oil warm up first etc .
Or does it really just depend who done the top end rebuild ie the top TVR specialists that pop up regularly rather than just some other none related Speed6 builder .
Finally are there any signs or tests etc that I could do to help me with condition of engine rather than pieces of paper and actually talking to what ever company rebuilt the top end , or should i try to save more or stop overthinking it ?
