Waze app (on android) and speed camera alerts
Discussion
I was driving earlier with Waze on in my car and noticed it doesn't alert me audibly for speed csmeras. I swear it used to? I just get a black banner across the bottom of the screen telling me the distance I am from the camera, but no audible cue. I might be going mad but I swear it used to do this? I cannot see anything in the audio settings to switch this on?
Any ideas?
Many thanks in advance.

Could it be that your Waze audio is routed through to a bluetooth input on your car which isn't the currently selected source? If that's the case, Waze will be mute.
Thanks for your response. No, because audible cues for directions come through the car's speakers.... It's strange!

Check your version. Looks like there was a bug...

Ah that's interesting, although they said a new version in a couple of weeks, and that was 2 months ago https://support.google.com/waze/thread/150948084/s...
How irritating!

Yeah they do.
I guess it all comes down to the number of active users in front of you as to how good they are.
It seems like Waze/Google have theirs own data, as do TomTom, and also Bing/Here.
I wonder if anyone has run all three (or more?) as a side by side comparison?
Google does a pretty poor job on speed cameras though! I guess it all comes down to the number of active users in front of you as to how good they are.

Thank god it doesn't warn if you're under the limit IMO, with the number of cameras around it would be a real chore for motorway driving if it triggered just because there was a camera which wasn't going to affect you anyway.
I think there should be an option to at least have it alert you if you aren't speeding, much better if driving in places you aren't knowledgeable of. Funk said:

I had the same issue a while ago. I ended up using waze with Tom Tom running in overlay mode. Or just running Tom Tom in the background when on Android auto with the Tom Tom playing through phone speaker. Tom Tom is good as it can verbalise your average speed in average camera zones.
I'll have a look at that!
Edit - is the app called "TomTom GO Navigation"?

Just downloaded, appreciate it's a pay-for subscription, £20/year....If it is good for speed cameras I'd happily pay that. Does it alert you for speed cameras if you have no destination set? So if I'm driving down a motorway with average speed cameras, would it still alert me?Many thanks!

TomTom amigo’s the one you want.
Nice one thanks! Does this give you audio warnings if not setting a destination, and running in the background?

Just use AmiGO.
It's free and works perfectly

Just downloaded Amigo, it looks way better than Waze.
Just to confirm the speed camera alerts work correctly rather than Waze, that only alerts you if you are over the limit, which is just crazy.
If I just have my phone running Amigo whilst driving without the actual route planning on will the speed camera alert still work?
My only potential issue with Amigo is that not as many people use it, so is the speed camera database as big?Just to confirm the speed camera alerts work correctly rather than Waze, that only alerts you if you are over the limit, which is just crazy.

Yes, I do this in overlay mode above google maps.Just to confirm the speed camera alerts work correctly rather than Waze, that only alerts you if you are over the limit, which is just crazy.
