TomTom Go720 in France

I'm going to France next month and will be using my TomTom 720 which shows speed camera locations. I have heard different views that this may be illegal under French law. Has anyone had experience of this with the French Police and can advise me of the definative rules on Sat Navs with fixed location speed cameras. I have a Road Angel but this will definately be left at home. Any advice will be appreciated.

Thanks for all of your advice,I will certainly be observing all speed limits. We will be travelling mainly on the Autoroutes and have been warned about timed tickets at the peages. Travelling mainly at night so hopefully the police will be tucked up in their beds. From Calais going via Rouen, Le Mans, Tours, Poitier and south into the Charente region. Also hoping to go to the Le Mans Classic while we are there, anyone had any experience of driving into Le Mans during the race weekend?
