Getting back on the wagon
Discussion
Well that's my first Advanced Driving lesson over! I passed IAM nearly 15yrs ago, did my bit being an observer (instructor) for three years and did a stint on the committee. I've got a bit (lot) rusty though so New Year resolution to do the course again. No dramas and the instructor didn't scream... out loud anyway!

For an idea of what it's about, you could do a lot worse than checking out Reg's YouTube Thread on this forum.
Observation, attitude and a systematic approach would be the basics though.
Pim, Yep I watched Reg's videos to remind me and once ive done the course i'll be over to see Reg!Observation, attitude and a systematic approach would be the basics though.
When I took people out as a trainer/observer you could see the transformation in peoples driving. The session where it was most marked was country driving - about 2/3rds of the way into the course. I'd ask the student/associate to show me their driving. Mostly frantic, tense, unbalanced, lack of observation, limit points to cock, unnecessary risk taking and the like. One or two sessions and it was remarkable. Mostly quicker with much less risk and drama, bigger reserves of safety and demonstrably more relaxed.
Try it - you'll be surprised.
well, IAM course completed, signed up for observer training and enjoying driving and the cars again. Once observer training is completed there's the tough climb to what they call 'Masters'. Once my diary commitments stabilise a visit to Reg is on the cards too.
Having fun with driving although the bloody 20mph zones round here are a PITA and sticking to 20 is making me feel the pressure and wrath of others who consequently take risks. One local village has a cricket green and 20mph around both sides of it. If I stick to 20 one or more of the following cars will inevitably take the other route round the green in a race to get to the nsl first (and do 40...). How can it be safer?
