This kind of problem is usually simple enough to fix but i'm baffled & am hoping other new XC60 Owners have encountered the same & have hopefully found a solution.

Cutting a long story short, i copy a selection of Albums from my computers music library (iTunes) onto a USB stick & insert it into the armrest USB port. When connected to the car a 2nd instance of every album appears under 'Albums' with all the tracks unable to be played & displayed with an underscore in front of them. If i view using the folders directory, every Album is displayed once, but within each album folder it displays the correct & playable tracks, but if you keep scrolling down the unplayable ones with the underscore are shown as further track & these can't be played with an error message of something like 'playlist can't be played/found'

The exact same happens if i import these albums onto the HDD.

I'm baffled as when i remove the USB stick & insert it into my car all's as it should be & if i connect the same USB stick to any of the laptops, only one album is correctly displayed, so why's the Volvo picking up a 2nd unplayable one?

The reason this is a bigger pain is it causes the search functionality to go into meltdown as it finds both track & is usually the unplayable one that's selected.

Thanks in advance.

Are you copying these over from a Mac?
Yes i am. Is that an issue for Volvo's?

When i copy them over to my M5 it's from the exact same computer but with no duplication.

Perfect & many thanks.

My son has a Windows 10 laptop so i could copy the tracks/folders onto there from the offending USB stick to a new Music Folder & then format another on his Windows PC on which to copy the tracks a back onto.

What should i format the USB stick to that i'll copy the folders back onto? I'm sure they're currently FAT or FAT32 which appears to be the preferred format when using USB sticks on Macs & PC's as the format works for both. Is this correct or should i format the USB stick to something else on the Windows lappy for the purposes of then copying to the Volvo?

FAT32 is fine.

The Windows 10 laptop is unlikely to register the "_" files, but perhaps try and look for hidden files just in case... And ensure you don't copy them over smile

Dotclean is easy enough to use mind...and would be a lot quicker.
Many thanks for your valuable help as the problem is now solved.

I couldn't get dot clean to work on the USB stick so opted for plan B as i've a Windows 10 environment (Parallels) on my MacBook, so i copied the music files back onto the lappy, formatted the stick again to FAT32 so it was totally clean, switched to the Win 10 image & then set the USB stick once prompted to be Windows friendly rather than MAC & then just went into Windows File Explorer & copied the music folders back onto the stick. This worked perfectly first time & now everything's correct & as it should be with the folder/file structure in the XC60.

Somewhat annoying that the Volvo's infotainment must have some inherent weirdness that causes it to duplicate the files in a way that BMW/Nissan & Audi don't when using a MAC as the source, but hey ho your suggestion worked a treat & it's hardly a huge chore.
