I have a 2015 V60 D4 with stop/start.

Recently noticed that it no longer does it's thing. Just doesn't ever work.

Not sure when this happened, it could have been ages ago.

The button to turn it off on the dash still lights up to say it's switched on but it definitely doesn't activate when I stop the car.

Any ideas on why it's stopped working or how to fix it gratefully received.

Cheers.

Just also read that the car has a "secret" back up battery for the stop start hidden under the bulkhead plastic cover which might need replacing.

But also just saw a YouTube video from a guy claiming that you should turn off the stop/start function every time you get in the car. His assertion is that all the stopping and starting means premature wear on the engine (due to oil draining back into the sump), starter motor and ring gear. He also claimed that any fuel saved will be minimal and that it's only really there to reduce emissions in cities rather than improved fuel efficiency.

Must admit I hadn't noticed any significant deterioration in fuel economy since the stop start ceased working. Maybe I won't bother trying to fix it as the little stop/start battery costs £150 to buy even if I fit it myself. So I'd need to drive 2,000 miles to get the cost of the battery back if it improved my fuel economy mpg by 1/2 mile mpg.

Any thoughts on this?

I didn't even know there was a second back-up battery.

We turn the S/S off in our P3 V70 each time we start the car. I consider it a pointless feature, it’s a shame it doesn’t stay turned off each time you get in the car.
Agreed, now I've read more about it.

Mine does stay turned off because it's broken so I won't bother fixing it!

Not fixing stuff fits right in with my skill levels too. Result!!
