The Airfix kit is a re-release of the old Gunze Sangyo kit. There's a lot of white metal & PE parts to fiddle with. I'm not an expert modeller by any stretch of the imagination but I think I'm up for the challenge of this kit. It's an old kit & it shows, the castings aren't pretty in places & the instructions don't exactly give a lot away either.
Let the games begin smile

Engine Parts

How to make a wire wheel.

Rims & things

Spokes

Here's one I made earlier, only took about an hour I think. Made me swear a lot, only another 3 to do frown

Bit of (slow) progress

Front subframe

Subframe & bulkhead

Rims

Glad I've finished the wheels, what a pain in the arse frown

The locating points for the front subrame assembly is almost non existant, a few raised bits of plastic (you were right dr_gn)

The subframe/bulkhead will be primed then sprayed a suitable colour.

I'm guessing you drilled the wishbone pivots out?

Other thing is, before you finally glue it to the bulkhead, make sure its all flat and not banana shaped.
Yes all hand drilled (there's a lot of drilling). Having never worked with white metal before I was surprised at how soft it is. The bulkhead wasn't flat so had to tweak it before fixing. The pilot hole registers aren't very well aligned either frown
Onwards & upwards.

It's a shame there's absolutely no cast-in bulkhead detail, especially considering the level of detail on the engine/carbs etc. It would make a great project for adding things like w/w motor and throttle linkage etc.
I found it odd that for a 'detailed' model it's lacking in that very thing. I'm not much of a kitbasher but this does need a bit of attention. I'll see if my enthusiasm lasts wink

Geez, this one took a long time to come back.

I still haven't finished this. It's a common theme.
The wheel assembly is one of those fiendishly complicated things that they'd probably use for some psych evaluation somewhere. The instructions are fairly good and do explain the steps.

There are 4 sets of spokes A, B, C, and (wait for it) D.
Only A, and B, need to go into the bender jig thingy.
Pay close attention to the direction of the spoke in the instructions.
Fit spoke in jig, press down with the press thing just enough to fit spoke into rim.
Repeat.
Try to glue the plastic bits together with spoke sandwiched between.
Cry, a lot.
Congratulations 4 hours have passed and you've probably done one rim.
Leave in box for six years.
