Thinking about getting back into 1/10th racing....
Discussion
Many moons ago I used to race RC cars 1/10th in the midlands, and I did fairly well, but then women & real cars averted my focus and money.
But I still miss it!
I used to race a Lazer ZXR - I was quite a Kyosho fan boy, but after a quick look at model shops website last night I was amazed how much its developed.
Whats happened to the Lazer? The ones I looked at were all per-built!
I'm very busy with work at the moment and no time to find out where my local club is to go and ask questions. But would someone with a bit of free time like to update me on who's ruling the roost in the RC car game now?
For comparison my old set up was:
Lazer ZXR
Tekin Speed contol
KO Fet servo
Trinity 14x4 motor
5 sets of 1700 SCRC cells
+ a rather nice charger that cycled cells
How much would this setup be now? (ie: good level race kit)

Thanks for that! Looks like I've got a bit of homework to do!
Sadly I sold all my old kit to fund my first real car.
Just found my club on the net too... I dont even recognise what it is they are racing now they all have touring body shells and not many cars in each race.
Back in the day - it was all exposed wheels and 10 cars in a heat - Chaos!!!

Its funny looking at the set-ups now: Shaft drive or lots of belts, motors mounted the other way round... or even longitudeally now! Brushless motors & Lipo cells!!
It was all arguments about whos cut-brushes were the best back in my day - and we had just about got to roller clutches on 4x4 at the time I quit.
Can't wait to get back into it - but I'm gutted my local club now only does saloons & I've heard they lost the outdoor track too because the local council claimed they were going to build on it But I know for a fact its still there unused.
Wish I had held onto my old kit now though. So is the Kyosho Lazer still worth a look (obviously not the pre-built version though)?
ETA: Sorry Holst - missed your question, I used to race around the Midlands (south) but Worcester was my regular club.

Well its good to know there are a few of you out there that hang around on PH too - I'll be back when I've done a bit more research I think!
I'll grab a copy of Model Cars too - assuming thats still running!
ETA: I remember just how easy it was to let the pounds slip away - back when I was 16 with my ZXR EVERY pound I earned / begged / stole or borrowed went into that car! I even used to sneak bits into my CDT lessons to drill and linish just to make them a bit lighter. Happy Days! (I just hope its still the same game)
