I think its a future classic going on Clarksons old review i found on youtube.
But im not sure if its old enough for me as i love the 205.
Still a nice looking car though i kind of see it as a newer shape 205 thats why i put pepperpots on her.
Do they look s**t??

I was just saying this the other week, 100% a future classic and cheap as chips at the minute and one of the last analog hardcore lift-off oversteer happy french hot hatches..

Shhhhh though dont talk the prices up laugh
Ha nice,
I think its one of the last models of that simple oldskool look too. New cars today look like Bugs and Transformers i think

All other aspects aside the basic problem you have here is that when you say 205 most people have this picture in their head:

When you say Saxo VTS this picture happens:

Mmmmmmm that 205!!! Not into body kits n all that crap.
Its faster than 205 though

I had a standard vtr at uni and it felt really fast. I love the simplicity of the vts, perhaps not a complete classic but def worth a shot.
Never been in vtr but the 16v engine in the vts is crazy, and being so light too it just rockets away

[quote=daveofedinburgh]Absolutely could be a future classic.

Cars like these creep up on you, or become suddenly/ unexpectedly desirable almost overnight.

It does have some of the 205 GTI thing going on, and is possibly the most molested 'hot' hatch ever. Untouched originals must already be few and far between.

Those of us that are 30+ are conditioned to dislike them as we naturally associate them with Max Power/ BarryBoys tw*ts modding them in the most distasteful way imaginable.

Look at more recent attempts by the French manufacturers to recapture the magic of their old iconic hot hatches... Saxo VTS (bar some Clios) probably the closest in spirit to something like the 205.

Will people actually pay good money for them? My instinct says no, but I've been wrong

This one is pretty standard bar wheels obviously, not lowered with crappy jap bits and bobs stuck all over.
I like the old feeling it has to it even though its a 1999 with power steering, the gearbox keeps you alert

I think Ph1 looks better than Ph2. Other posters say "common as muck" but try finding a straight one. Post 2001 (so Ph2) are in the £300/yr tax bracket, for a start.
Ive had a look on selling sites and found one half decent one but even that was moded
The happy face phase2 just looks daft in my opinion but each to their own

They were never sold here in Australia - but have seen plenty on the roads in Euroland over the years.

To me, they are the younger brother of the 205 GTI. Yes, it evokes memories of a cheap, quick car which many had in their "youf" - but it will never be the ground breaking classic of which the 205 really instllled a sense of awesomeness and desirability amongst petrol heads. Prices will go up, as finding an "un-f*cked" one eventually will be nigh on impossible.

They just don't do it for me. A Mk1 Clio 172 on the other hand - I predict future classic there...

But it looks like a yellow blob of snot

Yes. They will.

Mint, relatively low miles, original cars will.

That one wont with those wheels and the aftermarket sunroof.
Great little car and the longer bonnet looks nice
Good job i still have original alloys then, as for the sunroof thats how it left the factory.

There is no doubt to me that the Saxo VTS will rise in value, but only for the cleanest standard examples.
I'd say it was already happening. And, yes, that caveat is vital. I hope you've kept the standard alloys, OP - although there are plenty of sets about.

205GTi values are already silly, and AX GT values are definitely well on the way.
Lloks mint that

Going by all of your posts, you don't seem to like any cars, or anybody... or anything at all actually.

Aaaanyway. When I was at uni, me and a mate won an eBay auction for a p.1 VTS one evening after a few too many *appletizers*. 4 years later and he still has it; cracking car, and the best couple hundred quid I've spent at least. It's pace does make driving windy rounds into somewhat of a cubist event though.
Burn! He does seem like a bit of a sap

Luckily i got a 99 model before the facelift,
I think when the 2000's came cars started looking all sci fi like kind of spaceships looking.
I like that straight line look. Not keen on the phase 2 saxo though as the front end looks too happy for me!! I know its never going to be as saught after as the generation before like a mint 205 gti or xr2/3 ect. Saying that though the kids 15 years younger than me loved these like we loved them so who knows

I'm sure they're fun, but the generation before has the reputation of doing it better.
Actually beats the 205 on paper but looks wise no way. Im getting rid soon as i get a chance of getting my hands on a 205 gti

I know modern hatches are on a different level but to me lookswise they are ugly,
Its like we're in a space age or something. Too round for me i like a nice square edge ha.

Even my mk1 Saxo is'nt quite square enough for me. I like the generation before like a nice 205gti or r5gt turbo xr2 ect

Thats why i think this will be a classic because its the phase1, when the phase2 was launched
It had the new front end and i think thats when cars started looking stranger and stranger heading towards where we are now, plus theres not many left, they go like s**t, and handle like a dream

This Thread is about the phase 1 VTS becoming a future classic, For some reason its turning into a debate between the VTS and VTR...
We all know the VTS is rarer and better so can we just forget about the vtr for now???
