My Clio 172 Cup had a misfire & chucked a CEL recently, was in a hurry so booked it in to my local garage & they replaced coil pack, plugs & leads. 1 plug had rusted due to the tube filling up with water (no idea where from) & 1 tube was full of oil, cam cover gasket.

Shortly after it was still not running right so it went back & the old leads that were put on were changed for a brand new set, temp. sensor checked along with a few other things. Oil & filter were changed at the same time.

Driven it today for the 1st time & it is hesitating at low/constant revs & on a trailing throttle, boot it & the thing still flies with no issues at all. Guessing it's a fuelling issue? Will check the air filter later, it's a BMC or similar & not been cleaned for a while so maybe that will cure it.

No, I'm no longer on cliosport & am not planning on renewing my membership hence asking on here, hoping somebody may be able to shed some light?

Garage cleared CEL when it originally went in, it's not come back on.

They did mention injectors but had checked what they could they said, as mentioned any fault codes were generic so not much help.

Finally got around to checking the air filter tonight before I book into yet another garage for further diagnostics.

I fitted a 2nd hand Espace V6 airbox & ITG filter just after I bought the car, so about 8yrs ago! It has been cleaned & re-oiled annually (apart from last year), this year it is starting to degrade so I am binning it & fitting a new filter, paper probably.

Checked what I think is the throttle body (immediately after the air filter, a metal butterfly flap on a strong spring) & there is a film of black oily substance on the inside of the butterfly, didn't want to mess around so left it for now - should I clean this & what with? May this have blocked or part blocked 1 or more injectors?

Would a bottle of injector cleaner be worth a try, if so which one?

If none of this cures it then it's off to another garage.

Thanks, new paper filter arriving tomorrow, will fit that & see what happens.

If it's still hesitant then it gets booked in somewhere to be looked at.

Mines just had coilpack, plugs & leads - all required. Changed oil & filter as they were due, but only just got around to the air filter.

What are the chances that an injector should fail at the same time?!

Right, but none of that fixed my fault. Probably the same with you.

Not sure why you're ignoring the help offered to you, I have 2 spare injectors you're welcome to try, a code reader too. Other have said for £10 you'd get your own reader.

You're asking for help, to dismiss it, then say you're off to a garage. Either take on board some of the advise or stop wasting peoples time. We're trying to help for goodness sake...
A bit harsh fella, not wasting anybodys time!

I'm not much of a spanner monkey, will leave stuff like testing injectors to somebody who knows what they're doing hence taking it to a garage.

All help & advice appreciated, was hoping it would be something simple I could sort but it sounds beyond my limited capability.

To troubleshoot you should follow the steps, this is info coming from (ex-)owners, who know what they are talking about.

If you don't want to get your hands dirty, then why ask? Drive it to the garage, pay some money and get it fixed.

On other other hand, get stuck in and change some bits, it's a cheap car that is easy (generally!) to work on. FYI, the injectors are 5 bolts, pull them rail out, swap injector, push back in, 5 bolts. I changed 1 in under 10 minutes.
Have already got my hands dirty, don't want to make things worse by messing with things I know nothing about. If it's as simple as you say then it may be worth a punt, even for me thumbup

Good! It really is straight forward. I've done a lot on this car, it's not hard.

Your best bet is getting the codes read first though, so at least you know what injector you need to swap, or how many you need.

I got the WIFI version of this: https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B011O69946/ref=pe_1909...

Free app on my phone told me what was wrong. I'm genuine about the offer of help, if you're near Oxford.
In Devon but appreciate the offer & the advice, will take a look at that reader later.

A quick update, I changed the air filter a week or so ago but have driven it very little & only around town where it felt Ok.

Took it for a 6-8ml each way mixed drive yesterday, A & B roads & DC & it still felt Ok, there *may* be a slight hesitation at points but I could be imagining that as I'm expecting to feel something.

Either way, it's a hell of a lot better than it was so I'm going to leave it for now & see how it goes, if it re-occurs I know it's almost certainly an injector fault.

Thanks again all thumbup
