I race them and have a few lying about. Not going to Croatia though.
I may well have seen you in the past then - I've known Pete Sparrow and Neil Thompson (if he's still involved) for years outside of racing and been to the 24hrs a few of times and when you used to race at Croft.

Dyane owner here (had it since the mid '80s). Not going to the WM, as it's a bit of a trek from down here ;-)
Where is down here?

Hi all.

I’ve jumped over from the TVR forum and had to reply to this thread.

I bought my 2cv just over a year ago and have to say it is the most “fun” car I have ever owned!

The car is completely basic in every way but is charming in a way that no other car I have owned ever was. It draws more attention from passers by than the TVR and everyone smiles at it. It takes a while to get used to,driving one but once mastered it is fine and every journey becomes a challenge......

My advice is buy one, although there are still some rough ones around but half decent cars are definitely increasing in value.....
Did you go the stripe styling on the side? Never seen one like that before (you do get a beachcomber with similar, but in blue).

I think 2CV helps you to drive better and look further up the road to avoid loss of momentum! 24 days until we set off for Croatia in ours!

So is it still running the original size engine (435cc) ?

Yes and centrifugal clutch.
The car was in quite a state initially. There has been an awful amount delicate welding. For example the B pillars didn’t connect to the pan! Plus a lot more !
When you first get it on the road, you should see how bloody dangerous they are with that little engine in . . . so, so slow

Yep, my folks live in a valley so it’s up hill in any direction and 10km to any town. They have an older car which could possibly be a little faster but not by much!
It may be an idea to store away the original lump and fit a 602 to keep up with the other traffic . . .

I’m catching up on hubnuts reports on his adventures.
Hubnut doesn't get the full experience, with his Air B&Bs and teetotal activities !

Does anyone know if it is possible to convert an early 2cv LHD drive to RHD drive?
Thank you
Anything is possible, bulkhead would need changing and probably steering rack but probably the hardest bit would be getting the interior to 'work'. It's pretty sparse in there but you'd have to get the speedo and mouldings correct. They were assembled in Slough in the 60s RHD but would be like hen's teeth to get one. 'Modern' ones are much easier.

Yes, there are a lot of bodgers out there who think they can tart them up and flog them on with rusty floors and dodgy chassis's

People are beginning to realise what a great car they are too!

I really want one. I was bought one when i was about 11 but it rusted away before i even thought about driving it. Had i known then, what i know now, i would have kept it. it was an '84 blue special, and living only 2 miles from ECAS is ideal biggrin

I have a father in law thats a mechanic and a handy welder, and i can't afford the prices they have shot up too nowadays, but if i could find a good project however, who knows.
There are plenty of projects out there. Do you go on Facebook? There is a 2CV and Friends group where they come up frequently and 2cv And Derivatives Parts For Sale Wanted where they come up again quite frequently.

Be careful of what you take on . . . if they've had a shiny galvanised chassis they often haven't had the floors, or sills, or bulkhead or windscreen surround or rear sweeps replaced ! All the parts are available from your neighbours though.

My long-term plan (both before and after the galvanised chassis) was to get it into a decent condition and sell it to finance the much-needed restoration of my early Mk1 Mini, on the basis that while I like them both the Mini would be impossible to replace while there is no shortage of 2CV Dollys in the world. But I'm really, really not sure and I'm coming around to the idea of just scrimping and saving so I can keep both because I'm pretty sure I would deeply regret getting rid of this particular 2CV.
You'd be surprised, decent and sorted 2cvs are getting quick few and fair between. There are a lot of bodged cars out there with shiny paintwork but rotten panels and lots of filler. Your car sounds a decent car and a known quantity.

Ok, having a vague look at getting one again... But I'm struggling with the prices. Are they actually selling at the £5k+ point??
For anything that's not a bodged spray over filler job then 'Yes'. Often have the chassis replaced with the floors (and or) sills holed and corroded, or with plates over the top. Engines not normally a problem.
