I've been offered a 2004 Bentley Continental GT 6.0 W12 Coupe, in black with blue hide, for £22k. It's a first refusal i was offered by a relative who owns a franchise car dealership (not Bentley, Toyota) and the £22k is the book price it was taken in for.

It has full Bentley service history with all receipts, invoices etc, but it has done 115k miles.

What are the actual running costs of the car, comparable to something like a used BMW 5-Series/Audi A6/Mercedes E-Class for example? The reason i ask is that i would have normally gone for a German executive at around £25k but this is tempting.

Will i be expecting 4-figure bills regularly - even for minor services? and consumables like tyres/brakes/exhausts etc.

Fuel isn't an issue as i only do around 10k a year mileage. Insurance is fairly cheap (i'm 27) and tax isn't an issue either. It's more if something fails and the service cost and as mentioned consumables?

Thanks
Carl

Yes i know that, but i want to know how much more. I don't mind paying more for something more special, but if it will be - and continue to be outrageous then i may give it a pass.

any comparable experiences? thanks

Those saying i should check the receipts : i haven't seen the car yet as it's not been taken in the customer was buying a Land Cruiser and it is due to be by Saturday so i have no way of knowing the costs of that particular car. My Uncle (who owns the garage) just said in passing that this GT will be in and they were going to underwrite it to trade or even put it through at auction, when he then said i if i wanted it he could hold it back.

The guy that said on here on first page about a bulb changing needing a £1k bill is the sort of thing i'm scared of even if that isn't true or not, its the sort of thing. I do have a back up fund but not sure if it should be diminished on something like this, but at the end of the day you only live once and i'm lucky to be getting it for trade money - i believe the retail price is nearly £30k!

Things like 911s and the like dont really float my boat i'd rather a nice cruiser than a sports car TBH. My previous car was a Mercedes CLK.

Sod it, i'm going for it. Unless anyone can talk me out of it. Haha!

Erm...Wow! Completely overloaded this topic! Wasn't expecting all this. I'm 100% not the type of person to do my own maintenance - putting fuel in, topping up the screen wash, oil and changing a wheel are about the extent of my abilities with cars. Oh, and i can't really buy a drum of oil as i live in an apartment building! I think you've really taken it to extremes 300bhp/ton as most of what you say - i won't be doing. I don't have the inclination, or time, to sourcing individual parts in a way to slightly reduce the costs TBH...

I too would like to know what sort of parts and labour costs (at a specialist vs dealer) for things like turbos, electric faults, big parts like suspension etc, as i'm struggling to find (accurate) info on the internet.

As i said earlier i have a back-up fund of say around £10k although it wasn't intended on running a car it's there if anything gets hairy. I think i will regret it either way, buying it or not buying it. I believe it will be the cheapest GT in Britain(!) (that hasn't been crashed) and although i accept it will still lose money on value i can't see these cars around the £10k mark within a couple of years.

I should have stated if i do go ahead i will only have it for a year certainly no more than two years. and i would get something else, so in a way it's just a car i can say i had and enjoy it for what it is.

Going to look on Saturday when it comes in but i feel like when i'm behind the wheel it will be hard to say no...oh, dear.
