Having just got to the ripe old age of 70 and been married for 50 years next year the subject came up in our household of how to mark such momentous occasions.Cruises and expensive holidays were discounted and it was agreed that a sports car was in order to join our Volvo v70.But what to buy? With a budget of £6k for fun. Perhaps a 60's sports 2 seater spitfire, tr, etc that we had before children and responsibilities got in the way.But needed reliability, tried modern 2 seaters, but no space for kiddie seat.We then read all the reports on the Mini and decided a Cooper S was the way to go.I checked all websites, the one proviso was that it had to have the pan roof.Luckily a car was advertised by a local dealer. 55 plate,2 owners,71 k miles, met blue, loaded with extras. He admitted that he had had it in stock for 10 months and £2k was negotiated off the price, down to a reasonable £3490,a small price to pay for fun.
After a week its lived up to all the reports, just had it checked over by a specialist dealer.
Lots of open 'b ' roads in the north to play on!

How on earth could someone compare a Cooper s to a posers Audi A4.The A4 is not a sports car,its a saloon with the roof cut off! I maybe old but still want some fun in life.
.I've had BMW's and Audi's as company cars, frankly they both did the job in a boring tutonic way.
I've had the car fully serviced and next week it goes to a mini specialist to replace the drive belt.I checked the original build spec on the Bimmers web site.It seems the original purchaser ticked all the options boxes,so its fully loaded. It has the roof I wanted and the colour wife wanted,so was worth the money.
Off now to find some local 'b' roads for fun!
