Hi all,

Just a piece of advice if possible from someone more knowledgeable.

Cooper SD 12my.

Wife drove home from work on Friday, not started as was using mine over the weekend. Got in it this morning and couldn't get it into gear. She works for the NHS and a mechanic she works with suggested it was the clutch.

I'm not so convinced, as the bite point on it was fine when I last used it. It goes into gear fine with the engine off, started in gear and you get the lurching forward as you would expect.

I'm thinking it's the master/slave cylinder - actually praying it is, as I rang round a couple of places near us and Cooper Mini at Banstead were quite happy to tell me a replacement clutch and flywheel would be £2.5k!

A couple of specialists have come back at around the £1.5k mark, whereas a master cylinder is 300, a slave at 175.

Anyone else suffered similar problems and can suggest/ stop me selling a kidney.

Thanks,

J
