Any BMW Mini Techs on here please Auto Gearbox question
Discussion
2006 Auto trans on a Cooper S . This is the 6 speed auto not CVT box as I'm sure you will know ?
So I decided to replace the gearbox oil , filter , gasket etc . As gearbox was banging into gear , loosing drive on a long run . Ok when cold but a pig when warm .
I don't have a ramp and jacked car up and tried to remove transmission sump only to be stumped by the Torx bolt which is under the subframe where it bends .
I removed front bumper assembley and managed to remove the front section of the subframe but I still couldn't gain access to the last bolt . Even loosened all the other subframe bolts further back and engine mount . Maybe on a ramp with the help of someone with lever bars access to this bolt might be possible ? How do the pros do it please?
I decide to just drain the oil and replace it , not great but it may help its issues ?
On removing inspection plug so much transmission fluid ran out ? This is before removing the plastic level plug inside the box. Should a lot of fluid come out even though the level tube is not removed yet ?
On replacing the drained fluid with new oil it only took about 2 litres ? The fluid was pouring out and I'm thinking is it all running out ? I put the plug in and ran it through the gears , removed the plug but not the tube and loads of oil came out ? I'm worried there's very little oil in the box now . Can these tubes fail ? It screws up quite a long way up the threads on the sump hole ? Is this right ?
There is very little on the net about this job ,pelican parts make it sound so easy but in reality it's a pig of a job without a ramp .
Be great to hear from the experts please ?
Thanks chaps
