Trying to find an aftermarket dipper to replace the useless OEM thing.See that Craven did one but it’s £80 which seems overly expensive. Any leads please?

I’ve ordered the craven dipstick at £69.Expensive but hopefully less e pensive than running a. engine. It’s hard to believe that a car manufacturer could manage to balls up such a simple product devise

This dipstick elate has been going on for years apparently, still it’s not settled.AllI know is that the ORM dipper on our mini is completely hopeless, can’t read the oil level at all. Our new dee should be here next week so I will post back on my findings.

My new ‘craven’ dipstick has arrived, tried it out and find it is very good at what it is supposed to be for.Engine oil level very easy to detect. Expensive to buy but worth every penny for piece of mind.
Why couldn’t BMW provide such a piece o equipment from the outset? Poor effort from them.

I replaced the original useless spiral wound metal POS with the one with the red nylon bottom section.

Best thing I did was file down the width of the lower section to remove the bulb shapes, now it reads the oil no problem biggrin

Vital on the N14 engines...
Yup I did the same and is now nice and easy. No idea why they didn't just do that!
I’ve kept my old dipper, waiting to see how I get along with the new one I purchased. Not sure If I will
keep the mini atm, seems to much hassle with the thing.

I’m getting the hang of my new ‘craven’ dipper, used it today just as I would an old Austin car dipper.
Worked as it should and I noted our cooper had used very little oil over the past 500 miles or so.
Likely still trade it and buy a Kia ceed tdi.

It looks like my other half would prefer the Kia tbh, more room and better ride quality. I expect the mini to be gone sometime this month. I’m not fussed over it as I have my fiat coupe for fun.
