R56/58 N18 P0087 fault code

Had intermittent starting issues and random power loss on 2012 R58 cooper S; coupled with engine management light constantly on. Diagnosed High Pressure Fuel pump (myself admittedly..!)
Got a refurbed unit, installed it fine, car now runs perfectly for 10 minutes but now showing the P0087 fault code which I can’t clear. This is something relating to fuel system Most things online suggest HPFP but that’s been replaced…
Car has been sat for 18 months. Could it stale fuel? A de sensor? Any suggestions?
At this point I might have to admit defeat and send it a garage.

It was my old pump refurbished by a guy who many people on this forum recommended and he had good reviews.
I don’t think it’s the pump as it fired up straight away with no issues, and was running OK.
I’ve checked the fuel cap and that was okay… it’s got 3/4 of a tank of old fuel in so wondering if that might be the culprit.
It needs MOT’ing anyway so think I’ll throw it at the garage and hope for the best.

Just by way of update…
Dropped off garage this morning with no fault codes showing. Car ran brilliantly…
They ran a diagnostic and stored codes came back, mainly relating to low voltage from battery (unsurprising as it’s been sat for a while), but also fault code relating to the knock sensor.
They suspect faulty knock sensor given the car appears to be running okay, but they did suggest it could be a coking issue. First port of call is to replace the sensor, and they’ll stick a camera in to check if it needs a decoke. Didn’t think the N18 suffered from this like the N14 but there we go… should know more after Thursday.

Just a final update on this. Knock sensor replaced and car running well now, with 100 miles or so since repair and no sign of HPFP symptoms or anything else. Flew through its MOT with only an advisory on corrosion on discs which isn’t surprising given how long it’s sat.
