Cooper D - Cooling Fan Cuts In Often
Discussion
We have a 4 month old Cooper D Clubman. The cooling fan cuts in surprisingly early and often, sometimes after only 10 mins normal town driving from cold.
No temperature guage on the car (why?) so can't tell if it's genuinely overheating or if the fan's cutting in prematurely, but no warning lights and car runs fine.
Is this a problem or is this just the way they are ?

There is something on MINI 2 about this. I have had the fan cut in a few times when I have driven the D. Its something to do with the particulate filter flushing. Im told the engine speeds need to be higher when doing this, and the fan kicks in as pre cautionary procedure.
Yep, that's believable, thanks. Car gets used for lots of short journeys so would explain why it needs to flush the particulate filter often.Just wish that my £19,800 had run to a temperature guage like on every other car I've ever owned, it would soothe my paranoia no end !
