It doesn't matter what it is or how much it costs, as long as you like it. I've been using a Wilson TPA III putter for the last 12 years. I found it in a bargain bucket for £10 and it's the best money i've ever spent. I've tried all other kinds of Scotty's etc since and none of them compare to how this one feels to me
Edited to ad a pic of it. It looks a right state but it works!!
With the lead tape in the back of the head you've obviously tweaked it to suit (Swing weight is a massive feel factor for putters), surely its just a case of finding a club to do the same too? or heading the down the custom route (Raa, Edel, or Evnroll).Edited to ad a pic of it. It looks a right state but it works!!

Yes it was just a little on the light side but for me the asthetic aspect is far more important. I just really like the way it looks and sits behind the ball which gives me confidence on the putt itself
True that, I've got a battle ship in a Scotty Futura X. Love the thing after struggling with putters for years. Played at Cleveland Golf Links yesterday. A little gem of a course with the best winter weather I've had in years.
No frost in sight, so full course with greens running at 12! (in winter!! was a little shocked to say the least). Shot 36 points, but played all the par3's rubbish, apart from the 1st.
Will be heading back during the summer I hope, greens can't get that much quicker surely?

I didn't get a chance to hit the G (the pro was hitting that one), but the M1 was generally around 5 yards further on both carry and total distance than the others - was getting 105 mph clubhead speed vs around 103 for the others. Total distance around 280 for the M1, 275 for the Cobra and 273 for the 917 (only hit a couple with each). Covert was around 274.
Was most disappointed with the 917 if I'm honest, not a huge amount of feel and not as accurate as the 915 I used in California earlier in the year.
Its a weird world when it comes to golf clubs. What works for one, doesn't work for another. Was most disappointed with the 917 if I'm honest, not a huge amount of feel and not as accurate as the 915 I used in California earlier in the year.
I own a 917. Tried everything, nothing came close to it consistency wise (it wasn't the longest, but more accurate) The only other club that was close was the M2.

He's got a damn good swing for a 20 handicapper
A good looking swing means naff all IMO. I play with a guy off +1 that has the most horrid looking swing you've seen for a plus handicapper, but he gets the club back to a good position at impact everytime. I've seen this guys blog before. I'd take him more seriously if it was 20 to cat1. Scratch handicap is something 99.8% of golfers will never achieve, no matter of how much money/time you throw at it.

Presumably consistency is even more of a premium in the 0.1, right? As any over handicap round is a plus 0.1 and so a couple of bad comps can damage progress in a much more meaningful way?
On the head. As a Cat1 golfer, 1 bad hole can determine your round, but you know there are always chances to get the dropped shots back.
Its a hard school sometimes though, I've shot level par a good few times this winter, only to be beaten (read that as well and truly stuffed) by a 20some handicapper thats had a lifey.
Whats even harder to take, is when you're not playing your best but you knuckle down and make buffer, only for CSS to shift down and give you 0.1 back. Thats disheartening.
Here is another example why its hard on cat1 golfers, just back from the course.
Had my normal friday knock for a few quid, both playing off winter handicaps (Mine 3, his 20). I was -2 gross after 4 holes. A few silly putts later and I'm level gross after 9. Walked off the 18th +2 gross for the round.
You'd think I'd be happy, I was never down points wise but a 4 nett 2 on 16 gave him a 1 point lead with 2 holes remaining. Both par'd 17. He's now 2 points ahead. Both hit good drives down 18 but thankfully he does the high handicapper thing of pulling a 3 wood for no good reason and stuff's it wide right. he blobs the hole, where as I make birdie the conventional way.
Now you may think thats why I'm a low handicapper, but the hard part to take is. He had 3 blobs on the card and I only won due to an error on his part.
It is so so demoralising to play solid golf and get stuffed. But hey ho, I enjoy every round even if I do get beaten.

99% of golfers would give their right arm to shoot ~level on a regular basis.
I think it's a bit rubbish to moan tbh, in fact it might be one of my least favourite things to read/listen to.
Boo hoo hoo, I shot level par and got beaten in a Stableford comp = yawn.
Don't play Stableford then. Stableford is the reason club golf exists, it's a brilliant system, that allows people like your 20hc mate, to enjoy this brilliant game.
I agree. Stableford is a good system to level out a field and should in theory let everyone compete for the same prize. But its a flawed system. An argument for another time though maybe.I think it's a bit rubbish to moan tbh, in fact it might be one of my least favourite things to read/listen to.

I like a good moan. Its a low handicappers duty to moan about high handicappers
The 20 handicapper, is my little brother. I love that fact we can play against each other at 2 different levels but still make a competition out of it.
As I said in my post, I enjoy every round and love this game too much to avoid playing 70% of comps because they are stableford format.
What a knob, a week before the first qualifier. ...... just shot a gross 66 (-5) in a comp where it doesn't even count.
7 birdies, 2 x twos with only 2 bogeys. Golf is easy
Not sure if thats counted as peaking early or hitting the season in form. Either way really really enjoyed the round.

5 rounds in 4 days... quite happy to be back to work for a rest.
Fridays round- crap
Saturday- 40mph gusts, wanted to walk in by the 3rd tee
Sunday- Rain all round, played well and got a little cut
Today- Club knockout in the morning, battered them 7&6 and then went out again with some friends.

Got the bug again lately and striking the ball better than I ever have. Shot an 84 today with 40 putts, so frustrating. Could easily have been low 70s if I could putt. Was hitting GIR for fun
You've got to understand though, the more you hit GIR the more putts you're going to have. You're only 4 putts over 2 putting every green. You've got to be open to playing with new people (of all ages). Its by far the best way to "fit in" quickly at a new club.
If you don't embrace it, you'll slowly come to hate it and just give up. Playing by yourself or with mates only quickly becomes very boring.
When I joined my current club, I knew 1 person out of 800 members. I threw myself into playing with all sections, with anybody and everybody. It took a full season to fully feel at home, but now I have some very good friends both inside and out of golf. Wouldn't change a thing atm. love it.
