Old Photos of Goodwood track
Discussion
This is great, I have some more of a supercar day which I think Carrera Sport in Haywards Heath used to run. I remember there was a white Countach with the number plate 5EXY I think and very tricked engined black 911 with a very loud ICE package. I will try and dig them out.
Keep digging guys the pixs are out there
I love the way everyone stood on the banking very close to the track, although in the pit lane the marshalls were always screaming at folk to get out of the way, it was a bit like the rally stages with folk on the course…. I think what they have done to the pits and area is great today but it was quite eventful wandering about in the mud.
On one occasion I was coming back from a meeting and popped in to see if anything was going on and as I turned out of the tunnel I came face to face with a Mclaren F1 prototype.
It turned out it was a customer day at the circuit. So I parked quietly and wandered up to the pit wall to see Jonathan Palmer taking customers round on demo laps. Peter Gethin was there and gave me a look as like what are you doing here so I just smiled and carried on watching…I bet you cant do that today when it is closed off

I remember an open track day in the late 1980's I think, full of porsches, ferrari's etc..when a chap in a Cavalier 1.6L (chrome hubcaps) turned up with his wife and family in it. He paid his money and then went out round the circuit. I believe he didn't even do one lap before going straight off at the Woodcote into the grass bank (no tyres in those days) He had crunched it pretty bad but reversed out, drove to the pits and out of the circuit not stopping for anybody…most bizarre track visit ever.
great to see some more photos keep em coming

This is a terrific thread (obviously!)
Would any posters like to send us images for a homepage article on the new Goodwood Road & Racing website? We're really interested in collating any historic/period images as our own archives are pretty thin.

Its just a lot of people didnt realise that the circuit had nothing done to it for years after racing stopped, I had some old photo's and I remember plenty of others taking photos at the club events.
Your site look great as well and I have visited it already.
