Hello all,

I am looking for a new Mountain Bike, had my current one since 1999. At the time it was the first new Bike I had ever bought myself. Back then it was hardtail or full suspension...end of decisions!!

For the new Bike I am looking for an all round Bike, so Full Suspension is on my agenda.

I have been reading lots of reviews, watching lots of videos on YouTube and speaking to people who are into your Mountain Bikes.

My shortlist was Specialized Stumpjumper and YT Jeffsy. The guys with the MTB knowledge said stay away from the YT as they have seen cracked frames upon delivery of brand new bikes and of course any Warranty issues will have to be dealt with via Germany not a local shop.

I am happy to consider 2016 bikes as I am a Road Biker mostly. On the 2016 thought process I have been looking at a Scott Genius 710 Plus. Can you fit 29'' wheels on this? Anybody experience of this bike?

Had a look at Used but my concern is not knowing how hard a life it has had, not like a road Bike which might need a new cassette, chain, headset or other running gear....you have expensive suspension components to consider.

Any other considerations for a Full Suspension bikes for around the £3k bracket?

Thanks in advance

I am 6ft tall with 84cm inseam.

2016 bikes are perfectly good to me. Places I usually look are Paul's Cycles, Winstanleys and Buy-a-Bike for previous year stock. Any others?

Had a look at Bird and Whyte.

The MTB guys work in the industry and see a lot of frames/bikes. One of them works for wrapping firm and said they had received 3 brand new bikes that were cracked an had to be sent straight back.

To be honest the Jeffsy was at the top of my list, value for money, reviews, spec and all important they look superb (all to my eyes of course).

I am around 6ft tall with an inseam of 84.5cm.

Budget has crept up and up. I was initially looking at sub £2k but then the Jeffsy CF Pro and Pro Race blew that to pieces. I would still say ideally around the £3k mark.

Saw the 2016 Scott Genius 710 Plus online at a couple retailers with decent discount hence asking about them earlier.

It may be the earlier Capra they were referring to.

BOR - what was your reason for choosing the Jeffsy if you don't mind me asking?

As echoed above, the majority of the industry (having been in it myself) hate YT, how dare they sell direct and cut everyone out?
Dog eat dog in every industry these days....same in mine, clients milk you for info then some will go direct and save themselves a fee from us. Used to wind me up but now its a case of win some and lose some.

I will try and get across to Sherwood Pines in May and give the Jeffsy a go.

Is a 2016 Scott Genius 710 Plus now worth considering? Spec is good and should be able to run 29er wheels as well as the plus wheels.

The 2017 price hike from Specialized leaves a bad taste!! I understand Scott 2017 prices are rising too!?

YT will look even stronger value then.

Canyon - had a poor experience with them when buying a simple pair of POC glasses last year. Put me off them unfortunately.

Always found Giant very helpful, had an old TCR Road Bike which was indestructible and currently got a Defy Adcanced SL which is superb.

Truth is their frames will be made in the same sorts of places as 99% of the other brands, discount brands, mainstream and boutique these days - with everything going carbon, few are made in house anymore. Yeah, if there's an issue you need to deal with Germany, but have an issue with another other brand and your bike shop will be dealing with an importer, who'll be dealing with the factory - one long distant conversation or 3 people in a chain, all with their own agenda?
Good point, suppose like any other Warranty, only as good as the people dealing with it. Plus more people involved the more chance it goes wrong, gets delayed.

It will be an only Mountain Bike hence looking for all round ability and the Jeffsy keeps being mentioned as the go to bike.

Saw a Dirt magazine review on YouTube of the Radon Swoop 170 10.0 and they seemed stunned by it but more pricey than the Jeffsy I think and would not be able to ride one like I hopefully can soon with the Jeffsy.

The 2016 Scott Genius 710 Plus was only mentioned as it seemed cheap at £2499 but it is plus tyres. However I see GMBN and few other YouTube channels really rate Plus sized.

Oh the world of MTB is so diverse these days!! spin
