I need the forums advise on the following.

I'm having a shop build me a custom Venge Vias disc using the new Dura-Ace DI2 9170 hydro group-set.
This bike has been on order since last Autumn, with the delay being on the new Dura-Ace components.
Everything has arrived now apart from the Dura-Ace power meter cranks, which I've been told is going to be September earliest.
The bike shop has offered to fit the standard 9100 Dura-Ace cranks, which are available straight away. If I accept this, I've been told that the power meter cranks can't be retro-fitted. The other option is to choose a third party power meter crank.
I'm inclined to go for the standard 9100 crank, as I wont be racing the bike so maybe will never need the benefit of a power meter, but I'm not sure if I may later regret this decision.

So what would you guys do?

A loaner set sounds like a good idea, if the shop will co-operate.

The way it was explained to me by the shop mechanic, who seemed to know what he was talking about, is that if he installs the 9100 cranks he can't see how they can be later swapped out for the power-meter version; mis-match of components.

I'm not familiar with the components in question, or seen the assembly drawings, to know if this is a fair comment or not.

I had it confirmed by Shimano technical support today that the Dura-Ace DI2 9100 cranks are not interchangeable with the power meter ones.

They did suggest getting the shop, as an interim measure, to fit either 105 or Ultegra ones.
I'm waiting for them to come back to me with a price if I decide to go down this route.

Just to make it clearer, what Shimano suggested is me buying a 105 or Ultegra chain set/cranks and then replacing the whole lot when the new Dura-Ace bits arrive.

Thank you Aybee for explaining my options in a better fashion than I was able.

My thoughts are that being as Shimano are struggling to bring the DA PM tech to market, I will probably just go for the standard DA cranks.
I don't want to be in a position after a few months with the PM cranks failing.

After taking the advice given in this forum, I've managed to persuade the bike shop to loan me a set of Ultegra components until the DA PM bits arrive and the build should be finished next week.
The next step will be a bike fit and finally, after all this time, I can look forward to riding it.

Many thanks to everyone for your input, suggestions and advice.
