Just wondered what people who own a Peloton think to them? I'm not an avid cyclist and don't want a turbo trainer or similar, but would like a good (best!) indoor bike that both me and the missus can use (not at the same time biggrin). From what I can work out for similar money to the Peloton you can get a Wattbike Atom with smart technology, a Wattbike Nucleus if you don't need the smart functionality, a Stages SC3 (have these at the gym and maybe prefer them to the Wattbike Trainer) or the Peloton.

Has anybody tried all the above and can offer their opinion on what they would buy if lets say money was no object? I haven't tried the Peloton or Atom but I think I personally prefer the SC3 to the Wattbike Trainer scratchchin

It depends whether you want to do spin or practise road cycling.
I'll be honest and say I'm not sure what I want to do with it. My concern is if I buy a (non smart) Wattbike or Stages I'll get bored of it quickly whereas the Peloton looks a bit more longer lasting = better vfm.

There are two separate threads about peloton and indoor cycling but ultimately it comes down to what you want to achieve.

If you have no interest in power output or following a training plan, I’d get a simple spin bike like this https://spinning.eu/L1-spin-bike-nl/ you can still get a HR monitor to connect as a cadence sensor so can monitor some performance.

If you want to join in online classes, you’ll need the peloton bike but it’s a lot of money for what is effectively the same bike as above just marketed extremely well. DCRainmaker thoughts and review here https://www.dcrainmaker.com/2016/01/pelotons-inter... as you can’t export the data, it’s a bit pointless imho
Cheers for the link

DCRainmaker’s latest review on the peloton+ must have took him quite a while to write. Lots of detail

Cool, I'll have a read of that over the weekend. Thanks

The Peloton is indeed a lot of money - the reason why I haven't bought one yet!. But, I'm in the same camp as mcm87 - I don't want a bike/turbo trainer downstairs in the house (we have a large unused area at back of living room overlooking the garden which is a perfect space for this) and It's the missus that's probably more up for it than me, so the ability to swap users and ease of use is no1 priority. It also needs to keep us entertained, and to be fair whilst I haven't tried any of the other options, I don't think anything other than the Peloton is going to do it for us. The missus will also do them classes with the weights where you jump off and hump the floor etc. We are both already members of the local David Lloyd, and my issue is I don't really want to cancel that as it is nice to occasionally have a mingle/chat with other gym-goers. I also have a Founder membership @ David Lloyd so the all-in cost for our family is £89/month which is IMO good value for a gym with everything to offer. I just don't know if I can justify another monthly cost.

In an ideal world I would buy the Peloton treadmill too and put them side-by-side but at the best part of £5k, and being a tight arse, I'm waiting for the demand to slow down and I can pick one up at a discount / 2nd hand biggrin

Almost forgot about this thread smile

I didn't buy one in the end, but it's that time of year when I need to lose a few pound again!

So, it's a while since I started this thread.. what are peoples thoughts on the quality of the bike+ now? I was on a Stages SC3 today and found it quite comfortable (I've a dodgy hip) and also a nice quality feel to the pedal.

I could have upgraded to a Bike+ during the 30 day trial for no additional penalty aside from the cost difference for a Bike to Bike+. Didn't bother in the end as the build quality of the Bike is more than enough for 2 people to use eveyday.

Don't let anyone tell you these things aren't proper bits of cardiovascular kit. This the heart rate data from my last "ride" you can see I was working just as hard as I did on my last real world ride on my regular 18 mile loop. Infact take our the warm up section, and I was working harder on the Peloton than on the real bike!!

Currently 3 months in I've found a nice routine of doing some consecutive hard sessions and than having a few rest days in between.

If I didn't hate running so much I would be very seriously consider getting a Tread, infact I am considering it anyways as a way to get a different form of cardio workout during the bike rest days.

The fact the £39/month membership covers the Bike and Tread future locks you into the Peloton ecosystem, interesting to see the other Peloton Bike owners also talk about getting a Tread, that's not coincidence, its a very clever business model!!

My wife has asked the builders to give the bike its own area designated area in the up and coming house renovation, its the best bit of exercise kit we've owned, an indoor swimming pool in the house might trump it, but for those of us who cannot afford that its a very good bit of kit (am pretty sure we will be ordering a Tread soon) smile.

Fantastic, thanks gangzoom. The piccies above of your workout/stats - is this a separate App or is it something that comes with the Peloton membership?

Peloton app links with the bike automatically but it also uploads up to Strava after each ride and given I still do cycle in the real world Strava integration is really good for my usage.

The bike itself also give you loads of data, probably too much, both the bike and app handle multiple accounts really easily, so my wife has all her work outs tracked totally independently of mine for the same membership.
Great, thanks again thumbup

I've just put a bid on a Bike+ on eBay so fingers crossed! I'm actually surprised how many are for sale on eBay!

Peloton just knocked £400 off the price of the basic bike for anyone interested.

Looks like the Bike deals are getting better. 3 months @ £12.99 for the App membership, 0% finance on the bike, price reduction to £1845 (Bike+) and a 100-day free trial. Does anyone know if Peloton are bringing out a new or updated bike?
