Finding a part for my 2019 Cube Hyde Pro

Hi,

I'm unable to ride my 2019 Cube Hyde Pro at the moment because a small piece of plastic has cracked wondering if anyone can help actually identifying what it is to try and get hold of a replacement.

My bike dropped a spoke, I had that fixed, but then the (annoyingly finicky) hub gears were misaligned, so I took it to a trusted local repair shop who tried to get the gears lined up again. They managed to break the part in question while trying to fix the gears. It looks like this:





The shop were quite embarrassed and said they used to be authorised Cube dealers, but not any more and they can't get hold of parts now. So I tried to contact Cube directly, but their site just refers you to authorised dealers. I've emailed four of the dealers on their site, two of whom have responded to me with variations on the theme of "we have to ask Cube, and they're slow, start waiting, sucks to be you".

Riding the bike without the part fitted doesn't work at all, the hub won't hold a gear. The system has been mostly nice and solid for three years, but it seems that when the belt drive/hub shift setup goes wrong, it goes Very Wrong.

Does anybody have any idea what this part is called, and does anybody have any ideas about what I might be able to do that I haven't done already to get riding again?

Currently commuting 26 miles on a mountain bike which is exactly as much fun as it sounds.

I assume it acts as an end stop the cable outer seats against, and the cable inner then just runs freely the length of the downtube?

And there's a similar point near the headtube where the outer from the shifter runs?

Could you replace it with a continuous outer run all the way along, zip tied to the frame? Bit crude, but should keep it going until you can fix it properly?

The shop actually offered to do this, but they also said that it would work but fail very prematurely and need replacing sooner, so better to get the right part and restore the system to where it was. Love the weatherproof aspect of this system but getting it lined up (and, apparently finding spares) is a pain. Not sure if I'll have a hub shifter again.

Pretty sure Radon's are built by Cube under licence so will use the Cube parts bin i guess .

Thanks, that's similar but not exactly the same by the looks of it. I guess I could take that to the shop and ask if they think it would work or not. Based on previous conversations I expect that they will advise me to get the exact Cube part to avoid the system failing again soon in the future. This is the reason I tried to go through the "proper" route to find the exact manufacturer part, but it seems needlessly awkward.

One of the authorised dealers has come back to me and informed me that the exact part is no longer available but the alternative is part number 3394, which I've ordered for £5. So hopefully this will be a drop-in replacement and solve the issue.

TBH I dont blame the shop, once the bit comes out - no chance of getting it in, bit of a poor design

I also agree Cube were very poor on aftersales support - I wont buy another - not worth it

I just cable tied it to fix it, been fine since , obvs my bike is different to yours and has a traditional rear mech

Where did you buy it ? They shirley are your first port of call

Edit - just realised all fixed!

Not fixed quite yet - still waiting on the part and no guarantee it will solve the issue, so positive contributions and experiences are welcome. I think the reason for avoiding the cable tie route is that the hub/belt setup is really fussy about cable tension, the mechanic was nervous doing something other than Cube have provided in case it ends up being a repeat offender and never quite being right again, then it's his bodge that's the problem and I won't leave him alone.

I'll know next week if the recommended SKU solves it but this is starting to have the feel of a problem that isn't going to go away.

It looks like a two part piece of ABS plastic, if you can find a local 3d print community, somebody may be able to help you.

I'd have a crack at designing and printing something, but i'm away soon for a while.

Thank you for this - "frameplug" is exactly what I was looking for to help identifying what it is. If the SKU on order doesn't fix it, at least I can point shops in the right direction with this term, or search on ebay etc. Much appreciated !

I had considered the 3D printing route as I have a friend who has one and knows about this stuff, but my two concerns are managing to construct a (quite irregular) model with enough accuracy that it's within tolerances to do the job, and also that it would be of sufficient strength to hold tension and be under the load of shifting all the time. Will definitely explore further if I can't get anywhere with the part on order.
