Here is the official link to the new Civic Type R
www.redh.co.uk/
Dealers are now taking deposits, (£1000)
Out March 2007
IMHO it looks good from the front, not keen on the rear, disapointed it didn't have a power upgrade, LSD, HIDS etc. Its the same engine as the out going model with 1BHP more. They have altered the power band and peak power wont be reached until 8000RPM was 7400RPM. THis car will be heavier than the out going model but they modified the ECU to give it the same 0-60mph.
The various feedback from the Honda forums is its too tame, everybody was expecting more to match or surpass the other various hot hatches on the market VXR ST GTI etc. when the EP3 version come out it was the best hot hatch on the market Value/power/handling and won many an award.
No doubt it will sell loads, but they appear to be reaching out to a different market this time.

Apparently a more hardcore version is coming, which you can spec with lots of bits missing like the rear shelf etc. This should mean there will be a Type R model that harks back to the Integra.

I wish
There are supposed to be 3 versions. The Type R as seen on the website, A Type R GT which has say nav, curtain airbags and dual zone aircon and also the stripped out version. This I have heard is not a road going car and wont even come with a chassis number, a bit like the stripped out DC5's they are selling. Also it will only be available in LHD.

Shamelessly stolen from the Civic forum
CIVIC TYPE R - Set to Race

This development programme has produced an exciting range of advanced racing parts for competition level racing, making the Type R a highly competitive contender in the world of amateur racing.

The racing Civic Type R on display has been developed under the current GrA specifications and features:

· A lightweight Chrome Molibdenum alloyed steel roll cage, offering maximum protection for driver and co-driver with additional torsional stiffness to the bodyshell.
· A custom designed 6-speed sequential gearbox, created specifically for the new Civic Type R and the rigors of rallying on tarmac or gravel. The gearbox is operated by the driver through an ergonomic lever, which is hidden below the dashboard and positioned next to the steering wheel. The drivetrain is completed by reinforced driveshafts and a state-of-the-art limited slip differential (plate type with adjustable preload).
· The engine has been further upgraded by means of re-profiled camshafts and other internals for competition use, all of which have been successfully tested in the challenging Nürburgring 24 hours race
· A programmable, custom-developed Engine Control Unit (ECU) which also includes a competition data logger.
· Lightweight carbon-fibre interiors (door panels, dashboard trims, floor panels) that combine the need for weight saving with the 'flavour' of hi-tech motorsport.

The current production plans would allow the Civic Type R to obtain its FIA homologation in GrA & GrN on 01 April 2007. Orders for racing kits and parts can be placed at JAS Motorsport (www.jasmotorsport.com) from October 2006, with first deliveries forecasted for February 2007.

In addition to this engineering relationship, JAS Motorsport continues to provide an extensive range of services to the Honda racing customer, including a free of charge telephone advice facility and full racing support on race tracks and rally events.

Isn't that the coupe version that Honda won't sell here as the previous incarnation didn't shift in any serious numbers?

Yes it is but that would sell more than the new one in the CTR guise
