cool. but i better make sure thats what was used at the last oil change surely?

would it be a big deal if a slightly different oil had been used at its first service?

If you are changing it, I wouldnt worry too much. After a drain there will of course be some left in, but it shouldnt be enough to make any difference.

Just dont do what a chap on t'internet did once - flushed it through with water to get all of the old oil out!
no, its just been serviced. i just dont know what oil was used...

As long as you drain it, it shouldnt matter. Unless I'm misunderstanding you.
Sorry perhaps i wasnt clear.

the car has just been serviced. i just dont know what oil was used until now and for its service....

i am sure it will tell me somewhere. i have no quams or hold ups about using the best 5w 40 full synth perhaps? but i cant use that surely if it was changed with a different type of oil.

I wasn't aware that mixing oils made that much difference, tbh.

And as far as 'fully synth' goes, unless you're paying >£20 a litre, it's just going to be cracked mineral oil with additives anyway...it's as much a marketing tag as anything else for most off-the-shelf oils...
full synth 10w 30 mobile 1 is what was used. 13 quid plus vat apparently.

they said they reccomend not mixing oils.

I use motul 300v which is a true synthetic. wink
i just bought a 5w 30, full synth, apparently. not the same make but it should be alright.
