Thruxton: why don't they advertise a driveby noise limit? There's the obvious 90db hurdle before you get on, but what's the score for the on-track metering? Is there one?

Yeah, I had read that. However, "cars exceeding the noise limits on track will be asked to leave without warning". This is on the notes from Thruxton and it's event organisers and has me wondering if there are hidden noise meters or just a random marshall doing checks at times and places of his / her choosing.

I may nip to Goodwood tomorrow afternoon as the Porsche Club have a track day on so should in theory have a noise test available. I'll get a good feel for the level my car is at and although it won't be identical to Thruxton it's going to give me the GO! / NO GO! reading I need.

There is an hourly average that they have to meet as far as i'm aware. I'm just a bit concerned as it's such a vague test and having just spent £1700 on a quiet exhaust for my Exige i want to be as sure as possible the event is viable for me. 90dB static is a tight target and i wouldn't want to pass it and find out the drive by is in the 80s!

I had a Goodwood track day last week and hit 91db on the static, and received a warning on one of the drive by meters as I peaked at 97db (96 db) so I lifted in that location for the rest of the day.

Previous Goodwood static tests include 88db and 95db in the same car so inconsistent readings.

Thruxton tends to be lower on the static test compared to Goodwood from previous visits.

Lower is good

I'm there in September. Would have done next week but life happens etc. You know how it goes
