PH Trackdayers, would you rather have...
Discussion
...Car A or Car B?
Car A...
Is a dedicated track car, very hardcore, absolutely sublime on track. Very light, very quick, intense and exciting. However, it is un-useable on road (meaning you must drive a dull A4 diesel as a daily). It also requires a lot of tinkering to keep it running sweet which is often stressful and must be trailered to track. It cannot go on a Nurburgring TF session, only on a Ring trackday.
Car B...
Is a capable track car, it's newer and more reliable than car A and is mostly factory standard. It's plenty comfortable enough to daily and only requires normal servicing / wear and tear items. It can be driven to and used on the Ring. It has working aircon. It's 90% as quick and 70% as rewarding as car A. It does the job very well but doesn't quite thrill your tits off.
You currently own car A. You could break it, the funds from which would purchase car B.

Tell us about your car A. is it the crx in your profile photo?
I would have said to consider a Westfield or Caterham except that you’re doing TFs. I’ve done track days in classic cars and caterhams and enjoy road blasts etc in them, but safety-wise the ring in a 7 car is a step too far for me.
Even a pretty modest Caterham will match the pace of pretty much any fwd track car while being more reliable, lower cost and drivable in the road. It always means having a lot of cash tied up in the purchase price though.
Hi yes it's the CRX, which has a Honda K20 engine in it. I would have said to consider a Westfield or Caterham except that you’re doing TFs. I’ve done track days in classic cars and caterhams and enjoy road blasts etc in them, but safety-wise the ring in a 7 car is a step too far for me.

Caterfields aren't my thing at all. I grew up loving 90's BTCC, so anything I drive has to have a metal roof!
Car A wasn't suited to the wet trackday at Oulton so the tow car got taken on instead!
What a fantastic day. Lots of sideways action and dozens of overtakes caught on camera including E36 M3, Caterham, 2x Megane 265, 2x new Megane Trophy R, EP3 Turbo, Boxster S, Audi RS5, Impreza, V12 Vantage and a brand new Elise!
Only one car came past me all day... a seriously quick Mk5 Golf Edition 30. It was absolutely ballistic!

B, having done both at different points.
I think that most people on PH that have highly modified/specialist cars rarely get the value from them. There are cars that I have spent what, at the time, was big money on things like suspension and brakes, only to realise I only ever did 4 TDs before I sold them...
Very different to the people with A that do lots of TDs, ‘ring trips or even things like hill climbs. For that A makes a lot more sense.
