Someone didn't listen in the briefing
Discussion
I was on track at Goodwood on Saturday as part of Players Show and came across this rather poorly driven Supra. Spoiler alert, I do finally get past him at the end of the video

Back in the day when briefings were in person, I remember one of the instructors saying:
"If there is a car behind you, unless it's just been been dropped by a helicopter, they're going faster than you. So don't be a berk and move over as soon as it's safe to do so"
The in person briefings were much better. As well as words of wisdom like this, the TDOs could see when there was a bunch of over-excited lads and have an extra word. I wonder if they'll ever come back
This one was an in person briefing, so sadly even that wasn't sufficient "If there is a car behind you, unless it's just been been dropped by a helicopter, they're going faster than you. So don't be a berk and move over as soon as it's safe to do so"

Agree that you were obviously faster, and that if a car appears in your mirrors out of nowhere then it basically is faster than you.
That said, what was the point of the video? Why not come into the pits to avoid getting stuck or even have a word with the marshals?
You get people like that on TDs all the time, no point posting videos online to publicly shame them.
There was no option to come into the pits, it was a 15min session on track with the pit lane closed. I did have a word with both the Marshals and the driver after the session. The driver's attitude was that it was my problem for not going past him when he pulled over, not his fault for not lifting. That said, what was the point of the video? Why not come into the pits to avoid getting stuck or even have a word with the marshals?

I'd love to know the thought process of the Supra driver (and others who behave like this on track days).
- Did they listen to the briefing and think 'fk that' I'm going to do what I want?
- Did they listen to the briefing and just not understand what it meant?
- Did they understand everything but don't make the connection between their behaviour and the briefing (i.e. they're not talking about me)?
- Were they so overwhelmed by looking forward and the task of driving that they just didn't check mirrors and were totally oblivious to the car behind and therefore didn't realise what they were doing?
I'm genuinely curious to know.
I spoke to him afterwards, when I asked why he wouldn't let me past his reply was that he'd pulled over to let me past and if I wasn't able to get past then that was my problem. So possibly a bit of A and B. - Did they listen to the briefing and think 'fk that' I'm going to do what I want?

Yes, you should have either been much more decisive and just gone around the outside of him in one of them fast rights, or drive it through the pit Lane one lap, then straight back out.
Overtaking in the bends or braking zones isn't allowed unfortunately and the pits were closed as they used them to queue up the cars for the next session. I did try backing off and crawling round for a lap, but then caught him on the next lap because he was that slow (last two laps of the video)ringweekends said:
I was on track that day too, in the Bilstein Supra (ironically given I too was held up a while by this guy too!)
I ended up 'figuring out' a way past on a corner exit and had a gentle word with the driver after the session.
Turns out he'd only had the car a few weeks and hadn't driven Goodwood before, and chatting with him it quickly became apparent to me he was just a bit green and meant no harm.
Good fun nonetheless, it was super quick in a straight line and great to watch.
That was my first time at Goodwood too. Like you I found him after and had a gentle word, unfortunately when I spoke to him he was of the opinion that it was my fault for not being quick enough on the straights. Agreed that he was very green, I'm sure in the past novices would get an additional few minutes at the end of the briefing to hammer home some of the basics, that doesn't seem to happen anymore, just a "are there any novices here today?" raising of hands now.I ended up 'figuring out' a way past on a corner exit and had a gentle word with the driver after the session.

No comment on the Supra but I must say I didn’t realise you could reach such speeds at goodwood, 100+ through the corners, looks much more rapid than when I’m watching the revival on tv!
It's a great circuit and I found it quite challenging to learn with lots of unsighted apex's. The cornering speed on mine is probably a fair bit higher than a lot of the revival cars, as they will be somewhat restricted by tyres and a lack of aero. Here's a video of a faster lap I did on that day without traffic. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S9c-EDixEck

A front running Lotus Cortina at the Revival is probably a couple of seconds slower than the op.
A front running lightweight e-type is lapping maybe almost 30 seconds quicker.

Did you have “words” with the driver afterwards and did he not get out of the car?

I did speak to the driver afterwards, but I can't remember if he was in his car or not. I don't think that guy can be referring to me, I was in no way aggressive. https://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&...
