On the surface I come across as a miserable git. I am not, I am just a bit cautious about getting to know people because of moving about a lot from job to job.

On a recent walk round a bit of banter started between the site manager, the H&S woman and me about looking miserable etc. She then asked "is everything alright", followed by " Oh I nearly said I don't mean with you, I couldn't care less about that I just mean with the job".

I properly thought she was out of order at the comment as I know mental health is a big issue these days and nobody should be ashamed about owning up about it.

So, that was it, getting one over on a Health and Safety type person was a chance I was not going to miss. We get nothing but hassle off them.

I told her what I thought of her comment in a nice way, didn't raise my voice, and just told her that no matter that she said before to nullify it she said it so it must have been in her head. (Oh I nearly said...).

At one point she took a step towards me waving her finger so I gestured for her to back off.

I was informed later that she was heavily into studying peoples behaviour and thought she was a big expert on the subject and was close to tears back in the office saying she could not believe she was having to explain herself.
At one point in the conversation she turned to the manager and expected him to back her up but he didn't and said "well you did say it".
She frantically wrote a report about what happened while it was fresh in her mind just in case I took it further. No intention of doing because I can't do with the hassle. I had made my point.

Try smiling you miserable .

It makes the world a much nicer place.
What you see is what you get with me.

I'm not sticking my finger up anyone's arse to get along in life.
Correct.

Looking at things from another way.

I think the foreman of the electricians is a loon. He can't say a full sentence without laughing.

The apprentice I have been working with has got a face like permanently slapped arse, and has serious communication issues. Mentioned by lots of people before you start blaming me.
He is slowly coming out of his shell, we were laughing at snippets of Little Britain which we both like a lot.

I have a great sense of humour, a bit too subtle for some, but that is their problem. If something is funny I will laugh, if something is serious I will be serious etc.

If somebody was stood smiling all day would they not be classed as a complete nutter.

I'm thought of as a rather abrasive person sometimes. I don't go out of my way to be difficult or rude but sometimes people piss you off or are just stupid and you have to let them know. Which I do regularly!

But (OP) you went out of your way just to get one up on the HR lady and thats being deliberately nasty, thats not pleasant.

By all means be a hard-ass but not a nasty one.
Who said I was nasty to her.
I simply pointed out the error she made in saying what she said.
People in her line of work go out of their way to make peoples lives a misery at every opportunity. They throw their weight about costing people their jobs for any petty reason they can think of. Oh one of your brakes is not on, yellow card. You took your glove off, red card. Off the job.
And no, I have never been asked to leave a job for any other reason than the job has finished, on to the next.

OP sounds like a hoot...

Just the type of person we all try and avoid on site, because they just bring you down.
'We try and avoid on site....' laugh Is there a wker smilie.

I bet you are the first there and the last to go home and have 'your' seat in the canteen that nobody else dare sit at in case they get talked about and get some harsh looks after you have volunteered to take some gear back to the suppliers in your own car because it is 'on my way home'. Not because you are an arse kisser just because it is 'on your way home'.

I bet you would do a week for free after the job has ended just because you are that type of guy.

Is she fit?
Nah, not really.

It has made me smile yikes how folk get confused with H&S and HR.

(I am going for a lie down, all that smiling has worn me out.)
