Bit of background but I'll keep it vague - I'm looking for a new job as my contract is ending soon.

I was put forward for job that ticks all the boxes and sounds fun although its quite a way away but they only expect me in 2 or 3 days a week.

Had a first telephone sift interview in late May, a Teams call in early June where I started off nervous (really want this job) but warmed up and it seemed to be really positive. They said they were doing more interviewing and I wouldn't hear until w/c 14 June, which is fine.

On Tuesday this week I spoke to the recruitment consultant who put me forward and she hasn't had a word out of them. None of the consultancies handling the vacancy have. They've gone totally incommunicado.

I have had other interviews including a similar role that ticks most of the boxes and is closer.

Admittedly I'm not in the position of having to choose between offers but I'm starting to wonder what the first company would be like to work for if they are this weird at the recruitment phase.

Has anybody else been in this situation (from any side of the fence) and can can offer words of wisdom or insight?

It's not unheard of for recruitment consultants to lie, and say they haven't heard anything because they don't have the courage to give bad news to candidates.
If that was the case I’d expect to be ghosted. I spoke to her on Tuesday afternoon and she said she’d been unable to get a response from the company either by phone or by email. She also said something else which is relevant but I can’t disclose here. It was her opportunity to let me down gently (or abruptly).

Either way I’m still applying and hoping for interviews.

Just to follow up on this.

I was called yesterday afternoon by the recruiter. I was rejected, along with everybody else put forward and/or interviewed.

The company is now going to start looking again. Whatevs.

It might sound like sour grapes but I did 3/4 of the journey there the other week and it's even worse than I remembered as there are now roadworks for HS2, so perhaps it was for the best.

I'm at the next round for a job much closer to home that doesn't pay as well but the company sounds amazing to work for. Some other irons in the fire too.
