I've been toying with replacing my F10 M5 with a new Mercedes E63s and have been offered an excellent deal by Mercedes. However, delivery would be in March 2018 by which time it may be better to wait for the new M5.

Has anybody ordered the F90 M5 and, if so, when are you expecting to take delivery?

Can you give an idea of what deal MB were offering?

I too have a 2105 F10 from new and am waiting with interest to try the new F90.

E63s is a consideration too.

That’s a huge leap!
It is a big leap, but seems competitively priced compared to the Merc E63s, Panamera Turbo/S, Tesla P100D and Audi RS6/7.

Evo’s conclusion:

At a few hundred quid shy of £90k, the M5 aligns almost exactly with the AMG E63 S. It’s clearly the car that BMW set out to beat, and they haven’t quite managed it. It doesn’t have the engine character and better steering feel would improve the car in all scenarios. It’s an step on in many ways from the previous model, and a very good M5, but the Mercedes is more appealing.

Glad I placed my order for a new E63s but consider it a shame if - like the M3 - BMW appear to have fallen behind the competition.

Fallen behind? The M3/4 has won more more tests than it has lost....

Only now, 3 years since launch, is the M3/4 (specifically the Competition Pack LCI) regarded by the press to be the car 'it should have been' and able to compete with the Alfa Giulia Quadrifoglio and Mercedes C63s.

The 2015 model M3 I drove was an absolute pig, ridiculously tail happy even compared to my M5.

To be honest, Top Gear swayed the other way & put the F90 ahead, as did CarWow, so guess as expected the various rags allegiances come to the for.

Fortunately, a slight bias by EVO isn't going to sway me to cancel my order, however i will given how well the E63S has been rated take a closer look before my build slot is locked down.
Speaking personally my bias has always been towards BMW over Mercedes, with the M5 in particular being a ‘must own’.

I was fascinated by the AMG Hammer when I was younger, the Porsche-developed 500E too, but other than that I always preferred the 1 series over the A, the 3 series over the C and the 5 series over the E (the S Class was always in another league to the 7).

But recently BMW M appear to be making questionable decisions. As I’ve stated above, the launch edition M3 was a pig IMO. The M2 is a lovely looking car, but arguably the M240i is the better proposition.

The M5 has had a year to assess and better its closest competitor (the E63s) but appears to be only 0.1sec faster over 1/4 mile (though, the E63s was timed on a British airfield, the M5 on a Spanish race circuit) and a reporter who I respect (John Barker) believes the Mercedes to be the better car.

And as regards desirability, the new M5 should be in its honeymoon period, but to many it appears the E63s is the preferred choice (hardly scientific, I know...):

Let’s face it - neither is a bad car. Given how much I’ve enjoyed my M5, if the new M5 were launched slightly earlier I’d probably not even have bothered looking at the competition and would happily have given BMW my money.

But having checked out the competition I’m glad I chose the E63s and nothing I’ve seen or read has made me regret that decision.

‘Hardly scientific’ is somewhat generous.

Even if that were the case, and I think you're being unkind to Shmee's audience, I don't believe that renders their opinion on a cars desirability any less relevant than yours or mine.
