Hi,

I’ve seen an M5 F10 for sale from a main dealer, but the first service was at 4600 miles. Should I steer clear? As the running in service was missed, they won’t provide a full BMW warranty, but the dealer will provide their own warranty which is very comprehensive and covers everything. The dealer originally priced with the full BMW warranty as they thought the service history was full, as it isn’t what should I push to be taken of the price? The car is up for circa £37k.

Also the car is a 14 plate on 50k, and had disc and pads replaced at 16,000. Does this sound wrong?

Thanks for the help and sorry for all the questions🙂.

Nick

Ok, thanks for the advise. Price wise, if they started with a 2 and I got a 2 year BMW select warranty would it be worth considering?

What are the implications of a late running in service? Also could it have been done and not logged?

Ok, my plan is to buy an M5, and keep it until May - July next year, then P/X it in for a GLS or XC90 (need the seven seats) between now and then I wanted something for fun that can still carry wife and 4 kids should I need our current XC90 for the day.

What I'm thinking is, running in service aside, If I can get this car cheap with an warranty for peace of mind (http://www.sytner.co.uk/sytner-select/select-warranty/six-month-warranty/), knowing in 8/9 months it will go to webuyanycar / Volvo or Merc dealer as a PX and they prob wont ask about the running in service. If they do, I go to the next dealer smile Cheeky, but as long as I get back roughly what I paid I will be a happy boy.

The problem is the car is the right colour combo and has every option ticked, I'm thinking sub £30k and it could be a bargain (as i'm not worried about a private sale). Its a toughie as I don't want a lemon

I wouldn't touch it, too much bother and it won't be that cheap if its from the dealer.

Trying to sell it on or trade in with another reputable main dealer will mean you'll take a financial hit - IF you're prepared to take the hit then go for it, but as others have said there are plenty of other decent examples out there.

Brakes were changed very early also, mine is on 23k and the brakes are nowhere near needing to be changed, maybe the rear pads at next service. I don't go easy and i'm not a daily motorway driver either. Sounds like it's had a hard and uncared for life so far.
This is what i'm thinking, but then why fully spec. I will speak to BMW and see if it's an old press car or if they have anything on it. like you say plenty more out there smile

Thanks for the advice all. Instead went for a low mileage comp pack with warranty, service pack and the running in service completed at 1020 miles smile

Why would you think that? But for the record, when I spoke to Munich Legends (who are probably better informed then a few armchair keyboard warriors), as a private buyer, they would bite the garages hand off. Obviously based on samples of the engine, transmission and diff oil being tested for any contamination.

In fact it was the garage not playing ball and not seeming interested in selling the car, and the RIS scratching my brain, that I thought bks, test drove another car last Thursday and picked it up on Friday. Hey ho.

Mental, no running service, no warranty and £37k?!

Also buying a RWD 560hp car to run through the winter and then change to a 4x4 in the summer? (If I read the OP correctly) doesn't make sense either.

As an example I got £42k for a 31,000 mile 14 plate LCI M5 nearly 2 years ago, paying 37k now for one with 50k and no warranty is crazy.

Fun? I already have another 4x4. but the Gen1 XC90 is a bit small for family holidays into Europe, so wanna get something bigger for August next year. Having had a GLS last weekend, I think its decision made smile

Funny, I saw it earlier for £33k. Speak to Munich legends, and you can have the oils tested for contamination etc if they come back all good there is no problem + you can buy a BMW warranty privately for £1,200.

I didn't buy it as the the oil service was due in 6k and the pads / discs in 9k and they wouldn't budge on price @ £34.5k (they didn't disclose until 2 days before i was due to collect and I had been asking for 2 weeks!) + the niggle of the running in service and general bad customer service made me look at another which i bought in those 2 days smile . Ended up with a 2014 competition pack in Singapore Grey and 16k miles, just awesome...

I was told they had 10 people lined if I didn't buy it smilesmile

ML dont do the test, they just advised for complete piece of mind you can send samples of the diff, transmission and engine oil to be tested for any contamination. I had found a company to do the test http://www.theoillab.co.uk/buy-kits/

You can still buy the BMW warranty as a private person for complete piece of mind @ £1,200pa. The sole reason I didn't buy the car is Sytner holding back information e.g when asking when the next service was due, brakes etc being told the info wasn't available and the sales guy explained he would need management permission to share... WTF

But, all being said it's a great car with an amazing spec!
