I test drove an M5 today and was not wholly convinced, yes it obviously quick but the driving position is not amazing and didn't feel that connected to the drive. I didn't really push as I can't do that in an unknown car but I was also surprised the ride felt a bit jittery and road noise is quite high...I know it's not perfect but o thought it would blow me away compared to my Z4MC on all counts. Now I'm thinking I need to look at the XFR and C63 more closely having figured the M5 would be the one. I've not been in an E60 but the engine noise is fine for me even if not a patch on my old miltek e39 version. Maybe I needed more time to bond but just keen to hear others opinions as the entry point for the F10 Vs the others is fairly high and the approved used notably more limited in terms of warranty (12 Vs 24) months. Looking for a 5 seat performance car that can cruise and perform. Needs to be auto and practical to carry a family. Looking at a C63 wagon tomorrow and XFR next weekend. Do I just need to spend more time with the F10? Any experiences welcomed.

I test drove the dick lovett car, really like silverstone for this type of car. It’s totally stock but well priced for an approved car and to be honest I’m not sure I ‘need’ any of the options especially as there seems to be quite an affordable way to add reverse cam as a retrofit. The looks are fairly subtle but the massive brakes and wheels do make it a bit more obvious up close! I’m certainly thinking that the M represents the most bang for buck in this secondhand market! The fuel economy of the c63 is ridiculous all the time and the M5 is definitely more sensible for longer cruises and carrying more people. The XFR looks are better with the facelift but the front lights have a touch of Halfords and the interior is definitely of an earlier era. I can’t shake the old man feeling around the jag...so back to the M5!

Well in answer to my own question, there really is only one answer...M5. Picking up next week, went AUC with the Dick Lovett's car. Got a great deal and with the mileage I do (5k ish) I doubt I'll lose much even if I trade in a couple of years. Realised I'd test driven the car in all out sport plus which explains alot. Looking forward to getting to know the M properly now. Already have some mods lined up, dechrome, exhaust flaps and reverse cam. They are subtle though, I sent a picture to my friend and he was very concerned I'd gone soft. Fortunately the engine bay says otherwise.

Why do people de Crome a vehicle? It certainly then looks unusual as in modified vs OEM which unless you knew looks like so many other 5 series Cars.

Lol exhaust flaps - watch out if you have an early start as it will disturb the neighbours ( what DB are these when modified in that way?)
Black is best. Chrome makes me think of gold taps and st like that. Hate any silver bits personally and I think gloss black and Silverstone will look rather tasty and, as it will be my car, that's all that matters! I have an unbaffled motorbike I used for my commute but at least I can wheel it down the road, they'll just have to enjoy the morning rollcall when I take the M!

There has definitely been a price adjustment as the new car comes to the market. If I had 80 grand it wouldn't be spent on an M5 but at this price point if you need a fast, decent sized car that can do everyday comfort it's got to be right up there. The engine performance really does make a compelling case for itself even if the AMG units are more naughty sounding.

She's mine! Did the deal yesterday with a very fair trade in on my Z4MC. Freshly serviced (not needed but I always like new oil!) and for them to price match ALA on the gap cover which was nice (from 600+ to £210!).
Crikey these things don't hang about do they? Set the speed warning at 94 leptons as I adjust to the new normal in an attempt to hold onto my licence!

24k with a fault is ridiculous, there's the Hampshire BMW car on for 29k, well spec'd and AUC. I'd buy that one (nearly did) assuming a deal can be struck. Mine is stock spec which I thought might be a bit of a shame but the reality is I don't use it everyday and it has more than I know what to do with. The HUD is great and I can't see that I'm missing out particularly, I couldn't stretch to a competition pack which is the only thing is be interested in as an option. Mileage was important to me as I only do 4-5k a year (I'm weird in that most of my miles are on a motorbike) so if I keep up the warranty it should hold the value very well. I covered the cost in cash, I'm either leasing or buying outright. I'd never finance again, it just doesn't make sense to pay interest and depreciation.

Doesn’t the same era Nissan GTR take he F10 M5 to the cleaners?

Just watched Autocars Steve sutcliffe vs
The 0-100mph in D for both
GTR 7.34seconds
M5 nearly 10 seconds...

The S it was over 2 seconds slower

Well it lost 5-0 in the tests given.
No way is it 10 seconds to 100 unless you only use one gear. More like 8. Plus it is an ordinary 5 door saloon with a big boot and costs about 26 grand - does a GTR or E63s do that?

Alot of other tests have the time around 8ish for the same dash so I'd say this test is the odd result but either way it's irrelevant. It's a fking quick car!

I pick mine up on Friday and I'm very excited.

Never had a proper BMW M - closest I've been was an E82 135i with the Birds suspension.

Also never had a car with relatively modern tech (the F-Type was woeful).

Hoping the 3 month old boy agrees and enjoys the back of it as we'll be schlepping across Europe soon after picking it up.
Went out for a quick blast today, on full bore attack mode this thing is shockingly quick. You really need some.self restraint as it just doesn't stop accelerating. I'm using 3rd for full throttle overtakes etc and with MDM on the wheels kick out of you're too abrupt. The gear shifts are so quick it's crazy. This is the first dual clutch car I've owned and it's amazing. Super relaxed when you want around town, perfect blips when you want, super fast shifts when you need it. I also pinned open the exhaust valves today (zip ties are fine they are no where near the actual exhaust) and it makes a nice difference around town and start up. A bit more bass rumble is welcome. Might look into more aggressive tone options as it still feels quite muted compared to my previous set ups but otherwise I'm in love this car is incredible! Genuine Jekyll and Hyde personality.

How the hell did you wash a car today? Even Londinium is a white and frostbitten wasteland. Had to use the M5 and the TC was a flashing disco pretty much half the journey!

I wasn't bothered about folding seats but agree it is ridiculous not to be a standard feature. Fortunately we have an xc90 that can swallow any old crap and then some! It must be possible to swap the rear seats but is probably a much bigger job than it sounds.

Well chaps I've learned a couple more things about my M5 this weekend...first it can carry a family of five without a Multimac (though I'm going to buy one shortly for longer haul trips this summer). Secondly the speed limiter is more useful than cruise control. Stick at something sensible and you can drive without risking losing you licence and liberty - bonus! It is very comfortable and it should have had the valve mod from the factory, it's a nice extra bit burble, no drone. Do it if you haven't already!
