BMW M2, 36 month 5 k upfront 500 a month for a DCT M2 with Harmon kardon & heated seats. 8k mileage.

Just had a test drive and it’s blown my mind! Not so much the speed, more so the steering, handling, gearbox and the diff.

It put its power down so well in the wet and I was so surprised, not sure how anyone would pick an RS3/A45 over this, unless you’re a complete nutcase, all this RWD V AWD is nonsense on public roads imo.

It was barely run in, had about 400 miles and didn’t feel that much quicker than my 430d which is a given, I’m not even worried performance that much, not when everything else about the car is so good, I just couldn’t believe how well it took corners, so much grip and the steering was just brilliant. I’ll add that it was wet again.

My question is really, to the M2 owners out there, how are running costs? Brakes, tyres & servicing etc. I’ve heard about the M tax and I don’t want to get myself into something I’ll regret. As it stands I have a loan on my car that I’m paying off separately as being tied into a car with contracts, limitations & cancellation fees puts me off but this deal does sound great. I could sell my car, use the difference on the loan/value as the deposit and just pay the 50 extra a month.

I guess I want the car...and the answer to my questions are above....what I’m saying is, can someone talk me out of this please? I’m 24 and insurance won’t be kind to me either but I neeeeedddd that car in my life frown

Thanks everyone for the links and insight. M2 ownership does seem to appeal and I found so many other M2 threads so I know all that I need to know.

It’s become clear that the deal I’ve been offered isn’t great at all so I’ll be holding on until I find a better deal.

I actually took my car for a spirited drive last night and concluded that when it’s in the peak torque range, I really don’t need anything faster, I don’t need to spend the extra money so I went to sleep thinking, sod it, I’ll just keep it.

I woke up this morning, walked over to the car and heard that cold diesel fire into life...it had to change! Haha I need that M2z

With regards to the cheaper alternatives, such as older M3’s or anything older worth 10k, I’d actually rather pay a little bit extra and have a new car with a warranty, all the creature comforts I’ve gotten used to, not have to worry about MOT’s and big service bills. I just prefer a new car even if I lose more money!

OP. Have you had a decent test drive in one? I tried one and decided its ride was too figiity for me as it would be my daily driver. I ended up going for a new M240 and saved £3500 on the deposit and £100 a month. The ride in the 240 with adaptive dampers is much easier to live with. Just a thought.
I took it for a 15 minute drive which was meant t be a 30 minute drive biggrin

I did think of the M240i after I realised I couldn’t comfortably afford the M2.

I have driven the M135i which is sort of the same as the M240i and it just felt like a faster version of my car with more sound, having the same gearbox and all! Even the power delivery is similar albeit a lot more torque in my one.

The M240i would be my choice if I had a 420d but not worth the financial plunge for something that isn’t much of a step up. Maybe if the M240i came with the same kit as the M2 standard and and LSD....I would be tempted but then again there would be no point in an M2 wink. Clever marketing from BMW

The car is worth about 8-10k privately more than what’s left on the loan, it would be a very easy transition however I don’t mind paying 450 a month that I’m paying as I’ll own the car at the end of the term.

Only reason that deal appealed to me because I figured I’m already losing about 5 grand a year in depreciation on my car so why not up it and drive an M2. Trouble is I do need to start thinking of my future so I’ll be hanging on. Only reason I even considered it is because of the post test drive seratonin levels causing a ruckus in my brain.

You’re right about the honeymoon period though, BMW would call me after a year and offer me a drive in an M4 and will be endless after! :O
