Very rare i'm the recipient of any good luck when it comes to the financial aspects of Vehicle ownership, but i'd be lying if i didn't mention how much i'm gloating todaysmilesmile

Was a tough choice to cancel my F90 M5 order, which i'd have been driving now as was in the first batch of UK deliveries, but that choice has now been made 1000% easier to cope with given BMW have announced the F90 M5 Competition.

Not sure i could describe how p1$$ed off i'd have been today knowing in 2 months a better F90 M5 will be hitting the streets. Can't help thinking that BMW have dropped the ball completely with this somewhat surprising move, as the early adopters which nearly included myself will be fuming today & who in their right mind is going to be buying the current epitome of M's, knowing a slightly better one is within reach & only a few weeks away. Surely this will decimate the current order F90 M5 book for the standard model & slaughter the residuals.

The only saving grace, which the cynic in me thinks must be arriving before the end of the year, is the raft of great Lease deals on the standard F90 M5, as i can't see how BMW can fill the required build slots without the deals. Far easier to commit to the lower spec car knowing you've got it for peanuts.

A move we all knew was coming. The specs look decent enough.

When you negotiate Paul, grab one for me too will you? wink
To be honest Andy, i wasn't expecting the rumours to hold that much truth as knew it would be a potentially suicidal move by BMW M to launch the Competition (although the rumours didn't see it as a side brand, just the Competition Pack).

I did expect this model to perhaps arrive towards the end of 2019, but certainly not mid-late 2018.

I'll be holding firm for the time being as can see some epic deals on the standard F90 M5 being around the corner.

Given there is a Panamera Turbo and Turbo S and the E63 and E63S, two M5 models is not altogether surprising.

And if you knew there were two models, you’d take your choice to suit your needs.

Problem is BMW have messed up big time. In my view, should have introduced both models at the same time.
It's a fair point, albeit i think the differences between Porsche's Turbo & Turbo S range are fairly significant & considerably more than the now 2 M5's. Not well up on AMG's so no idea on the difference other than more grunt between the 63/S.

I'd really struggle to justify shelling out a st load of cash on a lesser model, when the Halo model would you'd think at these cost levels be achievable. If the Competition 'isn't' worth the extra outlay then the standard M5 would of course be more than enough. Sure i read somewhere that the F10 M5 CP outsold the regular car by over 2:1 & i think the price difference was around £6/7k. No idea if those figures include the raft of cheap lease cars, but if it does then that figure is probably closer to 4:1 as i don't recall deals ever being available on the CP.

Perhaps as above, this will lead to BMW giving away the regular F90 M5 on silly cheap lease deals, whilst then driving a wedge between the Competition as that would be acquired for a retrospectively much higher value. That could certainly see me still proceed with the F90 & i'd choose of course the standard car, however if that isn't the case then i can't see many regular F90 M5's hitting the streets.

There were only 785 CP M5's in RHD for the European market in comparison to over 5000 standard M5's according to M registry.

In the UK the CP is even rarer with only 129 ever registered according to the website 'How many left '.

On another note, the F90 M5 on at the Nordschliefe (amazing time!):

I did spot that, but perhaps the article i glanced at took production schedule into account, as the CP only arrived well after 1/2 way through the F10's lifecycle as was quite a while post LCi.

Will be one of those models where How Many Left has no clue, as many M5 CP's i guess will be registered with DVLA as just an M5.

The other possible reason could be i dreamt it (wouldn't be the first time)smile

The F10 Competition model is at least in Europe much less common than the "regular" one, if I were to hazard a guess it would be 1 in 20 in Belgium, and maybe 1 in 10 in Germany.
Not sure if the models are being confused as in the UK we had the Competition Model which i believe was limited to 200 units (possibly worldwide) & cost £100k (so more exclusive than the 30 Jahre) & we had the Competition Pack (CP) which had some minor but effective upgrades & the pack was IIRC about £6k over the standard F10 M5. Much of this cost was taken up with the wheels which i think were around £2500 if spec'd separately.

e "hopes" there will be.
Indeed, but i can't see BMW shifting many of these less desirable F90's if they don't do something pretty sharpish. Existing orders are being cancelled in droves & the Competition looks like a 'proper' upgrade to the F90, rather than wheels & trinkets with the F10.

I'm certainly keeping my ear to the ground for the next few monthssmile
