BMW M2 - what do I need to know?
Discussion
I am probably going to chop in our 2016 120d M-Sport for an M2. A friend had one and I know a bit about them but is there anything I need to know/spec/look for? I'm going for DCT as it'll be a daily.
The interiors are all black with is a little dark for my tastes and the colours don't seem to offer much variety but the seats do look a little average for a high performance model?
We don't do many miles for fuel is not an issue.

It’s 70% drivers car 30% bells and whistles. Some people don’t like that, others do.
From a driving perspective the only decision you need to make is DCTor manual. The base car had reasonable spec so I wouldn’t worry about specs. If you are a bells and whistles, I’d look at an M4 - but the M2 is a better drivers car

Not many options on the M2 so difficult to go wrong really. Electric seats, adaptive lights and pro nav are nice.
The seats are basic but are very good. The bolsters adjust to hug you in just right. I can do 100s of miles at a time in mine with no complaints.
If buying from a dealer make sure they replace the dust shields on the rear brakes as they are a magnet for trapped stones (a fault common to M2/3/4 as they all use the same brakes). There are revised parts that fix the problem.

Thanks, what is the comfort or access or something or other pack? (Sorry, not helpful)The seats are basic but are very good. The bolsters adjust to hug you in just right. I can do 100s of miles at a time in mine with no complaints.

Agreed on the seats - mine are good apart from the looks. People often comment about the 'poor' seats but in reality they do hold you in well when driving enthusiastically..

I bought a white one recently.
Quite simply it’s the best car I have owned, and I’ve owned quite a few over the years
Bad points;
Very small fuel tank, light comes on for me just over 200 miles ffs
Tyre roar is a bit excessive
Harmon Kardon is good, but not as good as the larger cars
Ride is a bit stiff. Ok though
Good points;
The noise. By fk the noise. I had no idea it would sound so epic as standard.
Handling. Hugely better than my old M235i. Glued to the road
The looks. A proper fat hunkered down aggressive little thing
Sat nav great as usual
The seats, interior, mirrors, etc complaints are minor complaints imo
It just feels so special, a proper event to drive
My pre reg with 40 miles on it was £41.6k. - £500 deposit, £446 per month. Lol

How can you get a £40k plus car for £446 per month. That’s like a repayment of 1% per month. I have never financed a car but may do on my next purchase. Have you got a huge balloon at the end of the term? It just feels so special, a proper event to drive

Nice cars but the seats do look very plain and sit slightly crooked. Surely there is a way of swapping them out and lining them up straight?
Was there no 'individual' colour options? The turquoisey blue looks horrid and the rest seems to be boring grey/black/white. Bring back Estoril or Dakar.

The choice of exterior colours was very limited on the M2 with from memory no individual colour options available. The interior "choice" was even worse (you can have any colour you want providing it's black!). Was there no 'individual' colour options? I agree Estoril would suit the car well but, despite being an option on the M240i, it was never offered on the original M2 and is not available on the M2C either. You do however get better seats on the new model; they're still black only but you now have a choice of either blue or orange stitching!

Have you owned a M2? I guess probably not as you have no idea whatsoever about the specifications of the car. The seats do not sit crooked at all, that is absolute and utter tosh and I believe that's what some of the journalists said about the car when it first launched, but believe me it is not the case.Was there no 'individual' colour options? The M2 came in four colours and Long Beach Blue was unique to the M2 and not available on any other car at the time. There were no individual paint colour options either.
And yes I do own a Long Beach Blue M2.

No I haven't owned one but have driven one. The seat is definitely sat crooked as is well documented. Sorry if this fact somehow offends you as it seems it has but google is your friend.
A shame such a poor choice of colours were available for this very good car. Maybe the competition pack can be specced in better colours.

I agree but no the situation hasn't improved much with the M2C! Mineral Grey has been dropped but Hockenheim Silver and Sunset Orange have been added so, together with Alpine White, Sapphire Black and Long Beach Blue there are now five exterior colours to choose from. Still no Individual Colours listed as options on the website although I daresay if you're prepared to pay enough you'll be able to get something different if you really dislike the standard offerings...... japseye007 said:

From memory I think it's 26k, 2.9% aprExceptional deals were around to get rid of the remaining old M2s as the Competition was imminent so I couldn't pass up the opportunity
