F90 M5 Competition
Discussion
Hi All,
I am seriously considering an M5 Competition as my new car. I had been looking at 911’s but have never had a M car and always fancied giving it a go. Test drove one last week and the performance was mind blowing and it handled really well for such a large car and I really liked the up to date technology. There was very little not too like to be honest, maybe the huge depreciation but never owned a car without that so hey ho.......
Can any owners give me an idea of what they are like to live with, your overall views and what car you came from. Any thoughts most appreciated!
Cheers!

About as far from a 911 as you could get (straightline performance aside). Honestly, M5 is great for mooching around as a daily snotter, with tech, comfort, etc, but still no disguising the size and weight of thing if really pushing on, particularly on B roads. I like how unassuming it is; being able to visit clients, etc without looking too flash is all a win. Speaking as somebody who has blown a fortune on new M’s, make sure you bargain hard though; a nice pre reg should be available for under £80k and the discounts are only going to increase as they are just not selling. Expect it to be worth half of this in 2 years.
I should add that I have not (yet) purchased F90 Comp, but had for 5 days from my dealer to try. Just found that after the first 24 hours I didn’t find it particularly exciting and couldn’t imagine simply taking it out for a weekend blast. I’ve got an E63S for a few days next week which may offer a bit more excitement for a daily driver?

Superb write up Palmball, thanks for taking the time! I certainly think it will fit the bill for me. How long do you think you will keep it for? Looking at your garage about 3 months...……..
I have been offered a pretty well spec'd pre reg car for late £70's which seems pretty reasonable to me for a new car. It has the drivers pack, premium pack and comfort pack. The only thing it doesn't have that I would really have liked is the B&W audio and carbon's would have been nice. I also really like your interior colour, I think the 2 tone seats look superb. The one I am looking at has black full Merino leather but it does look nice so not too worried about that.
I think I will give it a go and see how I get on, rather excited now!

nice one. I did a deal for a standard M5, premium and comfort pack, M exhaust and M seat belts, apple car play for £76k down from £96K. Was top of my budget, didn't think i could get a comp for that. Mine ws supposed to be collected Saturday but literally just found out it will be delayed for a week!
There were quite a few competition’s I had offered at similar prices. Let me know if you are interested and I will introduce you.I have never owned an Audi, never really appealed for some reason......

I'm doing well then as it's three months in already
I'll be eager to get into the new shape RS6 so we'll keep the M5 until that's released, so probably end of the year. Although it does depend on how much value the M5 has sunk and how expensive the new RS6 is going to be!

Collected mine yesterday. All I can say is wow...... !!
The speed is incredible as is the handling. Still getting used to it but is seems amazing that such a large car can move that quickly but more importantly how it handles that speed, does not feel like a 2 tonne car at all. It is also a lovely place to be, all the tech is so up to date and useful, still figuring it all out. As other have said though the ride is bloody hard, even in comfort mode it’s still pretty hard and in sport or sport plus you can feel every little bump in the road. To be fair though I did want something that was better handling and sportier so can’t have it all I guess! Oh and did I mention how quick it was??!!
IMO anyone that says the car has no feel and is a one trick pony (i.e. straight line speed only) etc etc hasn’t spend enough time in the Competition. It feels way more like a supercar than a GT to me!
I will get some pics up later. Thanks to those that contributed!

Had a quick look at my new car the dealers today...........
OMG
Donnington Grey looks great in the flesh and I’ve had black grills fitted..........yes I know, but I promise I’m not trying to be a CP, simply the look is so much better IMO
Picking it up Friday - what a great Birthday present!
Edited to add.........
It’s on Michelin’s, not Pirelli’s
Two sleeps.........

Just got back from a trip into town and found this:
Right across the rear bottom right hand corner of the bumper.
There has to be a special place in hell for people who hit your car and don't leave their details. Its 2 weeks old for gods sake...………….. So now I either suck up the most likely huge repair costs or lose my 15 years NCB. Either way someone is a scumbag and its going to cost me a fortune!!

Thanks for the words of support chaps!
Its always a bad day when someone taints your shiny pride and joy, no one should ever mess with another mans motor!! Bugs me that just because of someone's scumbaggieness I have to shell out a serious amount of money...…….
Never mind, still a superb piece of kit and anyone who has one coming has a real treat in store!!

My god, I just gave the car some throttle (not too much, I’ve only done 250 miles!) and it left a junction locally in damp conditions as if it were trying to take off
Up to 6k revs really, really quickly which I’m sure won’t do the engine any harm........what a machine
And that sports exhaust and it’s crackles......
That is super addictive! I decided to ignore any kind of running in period, the guy at BMW did t mention it so can’t be a real thing!Up to 6k revs really, really quickly which I’m sure won’t do the engine any harm........what a machine
