Info on classic CSL

Hi all don;t normally venture onto this forum but i'm looking at possibly buying a 70's 3.0 CSL.
i'm looking for a little guidance as what to look for in the area of origanality
Is there a list of chassis numbers, engine numbers and colour and trim options that ic an access to make sure i'm actually buying a genuine CSL.

Thanks for the reply Bob, i did have a look at the BMW club after posting this.
I haven't looked at the car as yet but i was hoping to be forearmed .
It's supposed to be a 1 owner from new and been stood for at least 20 years in a garage, so could be good or a total rust bucket.
