For some reason I really fancy one of these as a daily driver. Must be the fact that I have just made it to 50 biggrin

Seen just 2 'normal' ones for sale but both at the other end of the country. 2002 models, one trade at over £5k and one private at £4.5k. Both low miles ie 30k and 50k.

When I say normal I mean as opposed to the P71 police interceptor or New York taxi ones that come at a hell of a premium but tend to be newer.

Anyone here owned one in the UK? What was it like to drive on our little roads, especially around London and what was the mpg like. My current Beemer does 18 round town so I can deal with a gas guzzler, I think smile

Cheers.

I like the idea of wallowy biggrin

So was that 18 on a run? and does £4.5k sound right for a 2002?

Cheers.

Yes, I am avoiding the ex cop ones as they appear to charge the earth for them. I suppose it might be cheaper in the long run to fly to the States and hire one for a few days and then it'll be another scratch itched biggrin

Before I started looking I thought that it would easy to find one over here for around £2k. Just wanted a wallowy Yank V8 for a bit smile plus I thought it would be useful as my three kids are growing up and are finding my E36 a bit cramped, plus the big boot might swallow all the camping gear.

Noted about the STS, it's just that the Vic is an icon which they no longer make but it was just an idea. As I say they do seem pretty pricey for what they are but then I suppose they can fetch a price over here as there are so few of them.

I'm talking about the standard ones not the police P71 models.

Been looking at that, cheers. How the hell has it only done 31k miles in over 10 years. Looks good in the pics tho'.

Shame it's up in Blackpool. A bit far to go and find out it's not as good as it seems although a long train journey and a good book sounds a nice way to spend a very long day if I ignore how much the train ticket will cost me biggrin

Does seem the first decent priced late-ish model one that I have seen in the classifieds.

I did eventually get round to buying one in 2014, well a Mercury Grand Marquis. Loved it and I have to say it was pretty quick in the traffic light grand prix.

Surprised a few boy racers.

I only had it for 8 months then I sold it for 50% more than I paid for it to finance a 2016 Mustang. I don't have that either now frown

Mercury Marauders are not cheap. They sell for a big premium.

I'm surprised then as when I was looking for a Crown Vic, about 4 years ago, all the Marauders were at a premium I could not justify.

I ended up with a Mercury Grand Marquis, a 2000 model with only 32k on the clock. Beautiful condition but I sold it in order to buy a 2016 Mustang GT.

I don't have the Mustang anymore but boy! do I wish I had kept the Mercury.

I had a Mercury Grand Marquis. Posher version of the Crown Vic. Black with black tint windows. It was originally bound for the Middle East so was already blessed with the P71 upgrades re suspension, dual exhausts etc

I got it in 2015 with only 30k miles on the clock. It was a MY 2000 and in beautiful condition.

Originally bought as a Sunday driver, it was such a nice place to be that I used it as my daily. Commuting across London at 12mpg. But it'd get 26mpg on a run.

I sold it after 8 months for a 50% profit to fund my Mustang purchase.

Wish I'd kept it.

My Middle East bound Mercury had the same set up as the P71 as Matt mentioned above.

It actually handled pretty well for a big ol' thing and surprised a few young lads trying for the traffic light Grand Prix lol

That's not worth anywhere near that.
The Mercury I bought had been originally priced at £8k. I got it for £3.2k. It was in excellent condition with only 30k miles on the clock.

I think people think they are worth more or paid silly money originally.

I did with my Yamaha TMax. Couldn't believe how much their prices were privately. Stupidly paid more at a dealer only to find a year later that I could not sell it.

I had to drop the price drastically in order to entice a couple of phone calls.

If I ever buy a Panther again, I'd like to btw, I would go in with a very low offer hoping the seller had realised that they never were going to sell.

I could be wrong of course, maybe they are now rare collectors items, after all the car I bought for £3.2k, I advertised for £5.5k only 9 months later and I guy came to view it and offered £4.5k which I was happy to accept.
